Making some plans for labor day weekend and noticed that for very few AA miles i could go to FLL or to MEX. (This is from NYC where I'll be staying the week before) FLL is always my default when I have a few days and miles to kill, but I have never been to MEX and was thinking of checking it out. For those of you who know both places, do you have any preferences? One is a nice chill out easy going vacation and the other is a bit more high energy.

How about MSY for Southern Decadence, as very high energy option?

That would be my recomendation as well. It is a yearly trip a very good friend of mine and me take every year. City is full of gay men, and it's fun to just hang out on the street and lots of good dining as well.

Thanks, I LOVE New Orleans and was very tempted to head down there for Decadence but I really can't handle the crowds.

I went ahead and booked Mexico City, so I'm very excited about visiting a place I have never been. Now I can spend months obsessing about where to stay!

I suggested New Orleans because I am considering the idea myself, going as far as to reserve a room until I make up my mind. I already have a 10-day trip to Berlin around Labor Day, but after going there in April I'm feeling like I've experienced enough of it for now (and the dollar/euro exchange rate). I almost went to Southern Decadence a few years ago, but backed out because of threat of hurricane. Not a big fan of crowds either, so thanks for that warning.

THe bars will be crowded with a line if you go out at night. The nice thing about NOLA is you can drink 24/7 and some bars don't close. Some of the bars have dancers all day and aren't too bad druing the day and the parade isn't that long on Sunday but is a lot of fun.

I always go with a good friend every year and usually a couple other friends join us and we have a lot of fun. Lots to do in the quarter anyway and it is fun to go out to eat and shop in the quarter with all the gays there. And the merchants LOVE SD because we tend to spend a lot that weekend which they welcome, especially after a slow summer.

I did go to the bars my first SD, just because I had never been there before and wanted to see Chi Chi Larue. I tend to skip the bars at night and have a lot of fun going out on the street. You can also have alcohol on the streets as long as it isn't in a glass container.

I also enjoy hanging out at the hotel pool during the day and relaxing.
