Great to find such a forum as this to talk about travels!
I just wanted to share/hear what you guys think about my past/present experience with finding budget student travel.
Last summer I managed to find a student ticket flying NYC->LON August 1st for only $370ish and a flight MILAN->NYC September 2nd for $350.
I've been looking for the same tickets this summer (August 7th to September 6th, same destinations) and I've been finding the same tickets but averaging $100 more each way....
My guess is either I haven't found the best deal yet and so I check every morning on kayak & studentuniverse but another part of me says this must be due to the entire oil price hike....
What do you guys think? Should I go for it and pay around $890 for NYC->LON and MILAN->NYC? I understand it's the summer and so prices are insane but as a student its still quiet a lot of money...

I can only see prices going up from here.

Air fares have gone up generally... some places have increased their airport taxes/charges... so I think you'll have to expect fares to be higher this year than they were last year.
I'll go with the advice given by the previous poster - book now,.

I guess you are paying not miles, did you try Kayak?
Why 2 different arrival/departure ports? You can save some on a RT.
Like, NYC-MAD, then on the same arrival day purchase an EasyJet ticket to where-ever you wanna start your trip.
Then arrive back in MAD a few days before departure date to see the city. MAD-NYC.
Different departure/arrivals only are advantageous on reward tickets or if there is a special deal.
Like you could do NYC-CDG, CDG-MXP, ITALY BY TRAIN, APF-MAD, MAD-LIS, LIS-BCN, BCN-CDG, CDG-NYC
Depends on what you've seen already, where you've been, you really need to plan a lot bro I booked 4 tix on EasyJet this time. Like 30eu each.
Well thats at least what Ill be doing lol.... landing in madrid though then to italy (award ticket) Gonna miss london this time :(

A recent thread in this very forum shows a new LCC from Toronto to Europe (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/budget-travel/1210416-new-transatlantic-lcc-toronto.html)

A lot of time you can do an open jaw and return from a different city for the same price. Italy and England may be a little too far apart. In me experience you can sometimes even find a little cheaper fare as long as the cities are fairly close to one another.

I checked kayak and it seems to be around $100 more then studentuniverse....
In between London and Milan there's a lot of local traveling I'm doing... I wouldn't mind leaving from London in September, but so far flights from Milan are actually cheaper somehow...
In terms of that Toronto deal, I saw that! That seems to be the only thing cheaper that I've found so far (something like $750). Have to see if its worth taking a bus to get to Toronto in the first place.
Will give it one more week I guess and then decide to buy... last year i bought the ticket in late June.

London has obscene taxes, so that's possibly why it's cheaper to go into Milan.

Ive found open jaw to sometime be less expensive than RT. All depends on where you are going and when

Itīs the other way round ...
Flying into LON and leaving from Milano does the trick ...;) (as these outragous taxes apply only for departures from the U.K.)

That's what I meant!

If the OP books a RT the OJ should price as a RT without any extra penalties.
