First time flier on Virgin America going from DFW to SFO tomorrow May 6th. Currently on 2pm flight, but am looking to fly standby with wife on 8am flight. I'm trying to check flight availability. It seems like there are two regular seats available, but also, 9 select seats available....how accurate is there seat picker tool? We aren't flying select, so will they move some people up into select seats for us to fly standby?
We value are sleeping-in time so don't want to get to the airport unless there is at least a 75% chance of both of us being successful at the standby. What do you veterans think?

Virgin does not overbook so I think your chance of getting on are pretty high, people who do upgrade will open up even more seats.
As far as I am aware of they do not upgrade people for passengers who are trying to standby.
They have been pretty adamant about paid upgrades only.

MCS seats can also be converted to hybrid "non-select" seats from the FA's console. In this case, they still have more legroom, but no free food/booze/etc. If there are standby passengers and open MCS seats, they can convert them.

Is it possible to pay the confirmed flight change fee AND upgrade to MCS or First? If so, can it be done at the self-service machine?
Newbie questions, I'm sure. I'm an AA Executive Platinum crossing over to VX on Monday for the first time. I'm sick of dirty planes, non-functional IFE and surly staff.

You can upgrade at the airport kiosk (if available); last time I flew I had to fly standby and I had to do it at the check-in counter.
How did u book a standby ticket?
