InterContinental Hotels: Priority Club & Inter-Continental Ambassador - Free night certificate questions?

Hey all,

So I have a free night cert that I need to use up soon and was wondering - can I use it at a Holiday Inn/Candlewood/etc (a sub-brand that isn't an actual IC hotel)? Or am I limited to using at IC hotels *only*

Also, am I able to give the certificate to my parents if we can't find a use for it?

One more question, I know you have to present the physical cert to the hotel at the time. But the new stipulation is that you have to book your room using the special site for those with Amb reward certs. In terms of the expiration of the cert, would I have to book the room on a date where I would present the physical cert *before* the expiration date? Or, say if the cert expires Oct 1st, could I book a room in December?

Actually, I may have found some of my anwers. From searching on the special reward cert reservations site, it looks like only IC Hotels are within scope.

The IC Amb FAQ says the cert is non-transferable, but I've seen people giving their certs away - how exactly does that work?

As far as expiration, it says to use within 12-months of the date of issue. I presume that means I need to book online within that 12 months and present the coupon within that time. So if it expires in October 1st, I need to book before that.

EDIT: ahh, you beat me to it mxm135! Thanks for the follow-up though. But what about people are have given away their certs? Did IC recently update or change their policy on that? If you look in the bogof thread, it sounds like d3vski gave away a cert no problem back in February of this year.

The person using it must be an Amb/RA in order to use it. If your parents are Amb, no problem.

Book AND stay, for total clarity!

Another option is that you could try to swap your certificate for one with a later date, if yours is about to expire. Someone on Coupon Connection may have one they are using very soon and so could swap. Alternatively, you can usually swap a BOGO for a 5k points code.
