Has anyone heard of a status match program for points this year?
I know this time last year they ran a promo that gave points for matching your status from another hotel chain

From what I can tell Best Western doesn’t match points or give bonus points, but if you are at an elite level with another hotel loyalty program Best Western will match it. Email statusmatch@bestwestern.com about your current hotel loyalty program and they get you set up.

Benefits may be minimal, but the status match process is painless.

I used to think BW status was worthless but since comp'd to Diamond last year find I get nice upgrades and freebie's....not worth the stretch to earn status but worth having. Heard BW Europe values status more...so might test it this year.

I only know European BW hotels and that's difficult to agree.

Despite asking for an upgrade when booking (written remark), that's not always the case (~50%) even when the hotel is not full.

I always show my diamond card at check-in, but no recognition other than "please show that when checking out tomorrow". In 3 years (and 90-100 nights), I was once thanked for my loyalty and twice offered a complimentary drink.

There are some exceptions, but generally benefits are small. Indeed, I only remain loyal as the points go easily to my FFP. I guess that employees have a lack of knowledge about the loyalty program, especially because BW hotels are all independent.

Just received the following e-mail:

Upgrade your Rewards membership... for FREE!

What’s that? You’re enjoying better benefits somewhere else? Well, we can’t have that… so here’s what we’re going to do.

If you’re an elite member of another hotel’s loyalty programme, we’ll match your membership*, for free. That means you’ll get all the extra perks and privileges that come with our Platinum and Diamond tiers* like bonus points, partner stays free, and more!

I've now sent three emails to statusmatch@bestwestern.com and got no reply whatsoever. Not impressed.

Try this:

Fill the form out and FAX it. I did this last year and they gave me Diamond either that day or the next day.

Is this status match permanent? I did the status match in early 2010 and am still diamond with BW.

BW matched Hilton Gold right away. First stay with status was at BW in Sisters, OR where they have sumptuous suites. I was reserved for the cheapest queen bedded room and the nice man at the desk, on a very discounted rate for festival workers, gave us a gorgeous king bedded suite with a Western themed (Sisters trademark) living room with a stone fireplace. Instead of a duvet, we had a Pendleton heavy wood Indian style blanket along with throw pillows also in Pendleton wool. To top it, a jacuzzi. Oh, yes, very happy with the upgrade program.

Emailing will get you nowhere.

It's a physical (snail mail) process...or you could fax it as someone did above.

Actually it did work - eventually!! I would have been even less impressed if they had a specific email address for status matches and then they ignored emails sent to that address. Mind you, 10 days after my last stay, my points have not posted.....

What did they match your Hilton Gold with?

Wish I'd seen this before embarking on the journey. :(

Customer service apparently means nothing to BW. I originally sent my request to the statusmatch address. No response...ever. I provided the prescribed form with four different statuses from other programs. After sending an additional email to their inappropriately named customer service email address, I found out that I was matched to platinum status and told that they picked the first program off the form I submitted instead of considering all the different programs. How f'd up is that?

I appealled on the basis of common sense and finally got Diamond status but, to date, have never received an email response from these people. "Status match...no catch" my bottom. Fortunately, I have decent status with other chains so that this isn't that big a deal but for a chain that claims to be the largest in the world, one might, and should, expect more.

No, that's completely normal. It's your giving them something so confusing (to the average clerk that's likely to process something like this) than I' am baffled by.

You're lucky you get them to reconsider! People who tried the same sort of confusing submissions to Capital One's 100K "Match My Miles" promo got less than they expected and in general no reconsideration, while people who carefully picked out and did their submissions got what they'd expected. (Some fool submitted a Southwest statement with just a few credits to C1, and was surprised that they got hardly any C1 "miles" for it. It turned out this person had FFP accounts with actual miles with other ailrines, and I never understood why they submitted the Southwest statement instead.)

You should have made the choice for them. You cannot expect the clerks who process these submissions to make the choice that you would like them to make. Only if you give them no choice to make do you have a chance of them taking the choice you want (since it's only choice they can take!).

In my case, although (prior to my BW status mathc) I was top tier elite at three programs, I didn't submit Priority Club, because it only has two levels, and calls the top level Platinum. I either submitted Hilton HHonors (where Diamond is 3rd level up) or Choice (where Diamond is 4th level up, IIRC).

You apparently have not followed how status match submissions are done (in other forums on FT). You never get a status match for a combination of programs in which you currently have status; if anything, that lessens the chance of a status match, since it signals you're less likely to be loyal to your new program!

The whole game in status matching is to make them think that you've been loyal to some one other hotel chain (or airline), but you're now thinking of switching to this new hotel chain (or airline). That illusion is broken if they see that you spread yourself across tons of hotel programs (or ailine programs)...

Well, when you put it that way, I do feel lucky to have gotten what I wanted and a little sheepish at the same time.

You make some good points here that I'll keep in mind for the next time. Thanks.

My status match email only took 1 day to get me upgraded.
