I found the Sixt car rental perks quite enticing:

Sixt
* guaranteed business rates (request when booking)
* 35% discount (request when booking, giving promotional code 798951)
* free upgrade

Does anyone have any experience with the 35% discount? How does one go about it - I couldn't find an input field when booking online.

...I thought the discount applied to the public rate, which is usually much higher than the Internet rates.

I have never used Sixt in conjunction with FB, only hertz so far.

BTW, I found the status match with Hertz quite useful. They offer good rates on week-ends.

several years ago I have been using SIXT quite a lot with my SIXT plat card that I got freely as being FB Plat.

I must say that for my rental in Europe it was a great value. I could always get very cheap price for rental (price not including insurance but my Amex would cover it) and had almost a 100% upgrade success. Very often I rented the cheapest model and ended up with a top class car.

I have not used them recently mostly because my travelling pattern has changed and that I mostly rent cars now in the US.

the only thing that I didn't like too much with SIXT is that you really need to be careful when you pick up a car to check it carefully and mention immediately any flaws you may find. they tried to charged me several times damages that I definitely didn't do. Never had such issues with Hertz.

In the US I have tried both Hertz and Avis in combination with FB Plat and have a very poor success at getting a comp upgrade

The Sixt offer is indeed quite interesting but just keep in mind that you will not receive the 35% discount. This is a 35% discount on their published fees which generally means much higher than any online rate you can get.

This shouldn't be an issue however as I find that Sixt is actually cheaper than other rental companies in the midrange of cars.

As a FB Platinum customer you can ask for the Sixt Platinum card which will give you a one class upgrade when renting a car with Sixt. I found this to work very well usually and received a few nice cars such as an Mercedes S-Class at the Stuttgart airport...

You could book the cars throught the links at http://partnersearch.ehn.klm.com/uk_en/partner.jsp?pid=275282&q=sixt&o=0&l=5&p=0&eb=all but it seems this page was recently changed. Not only is Sixt not giving you 500 miles anymore but only 300. The direct links to book disappeared and there's no mentioning anymore of the Sixt Holiday Cars giving you miles.

Damn shame.
