Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - Glimpse of New First class
http://www.ttrweekly.com/site/2011/03/thai-promotes-aircraft-upgrade-at-itb/
Just found a render of the New First class, I'm not sure if this has been posted yet because the article was released on March 7th, but here it is:

Looks alot like Singapore's, JAL's and AI's 777-300ER suites, but from this render it looks like the seats are in a A380 cabin not a 777. But at least it's an improvement from previous seats
Also looks like current 77W (Jet Airways-leased aircraft) suites, just without the privacy doors...

I hope they install 12 of those suites in the A380! LH's reduction from 16 to 8 on the A380 and 747 is a big blow.

I have a feeling they will. One thing that I just remembered was that it also looks like the current Korean Air Suite (Too many similar designs, can't some airlines choose more unique designs or something that makes it look different from the other ones). I find these first class seats too ordinary now, there's no wow factor now. The only ones that wow me are CX, QF, SIA'S A380 SUITES and LH/LX.
Korean air are going to install 12 of these seats on the A380 with a 83” seat pitch but instead of upper deck it's lower deck.

When is the TGA380 going into service?? As of now, am I to assume this will be their 747 F setup? Or are they waiting for the new bird? Also, do we know what routes it will be flying?

I don't know, these look pretty awesome to me. Maybe I haven't flown F enough yet to get jaded. But I would take these suites any day (no matter how similar they may be to all the others) over old F recliners or even the current generation TG F or LH F seats or the even worse old UA F seats still flying on their 777s.

A couple of long hauls in Y will surely bring back the "wow" factor, even to the old rusty LH F. :)
Alas, these don't appear to be the same design as the 9W F, rather similar to the SQ F on 777 as mentioned, which is a good thing.
Looks nice. Just got done doing 4 legs in F in the past week or so, I think an update would be a good idea.

Looks absolutely fantastic to me. My favourite F seat in *A at the moment is the new LX F seat. I love the foot bench and the huge screen. I prefer this design to a fully enclosed suite as it is less claustrophobic but still retains a great amount of privacy. To me this seat looks very similar to LX F so a big ^ from me.
Is the first 747 re-fit that is being done now/soon one of the ones that is being completely refitted in all classes or is it one of the ones being refitted in Y only? I think we may well see this seat on 747's before we see it on an A380.
Looks perfect ^ Another step in the right direction for TG premium pax ^

The article is funny. It talks only about Y seats but shows a picture that is obviously F seats.
But those F seats look perfectly fine.

I'm surprised that for J class they didn't choose the updated version of it e.g. EY new J class

Ups, at first glance, I thought they would use new LX/AY/DL J seats, but you are right - these are EY seats - I hope these will not be as narrow as with EY...

I hope that BA will change their NGCW seats to that kind of seats instead of using the stupid back ward concept for the 2 middle seats

I am flying from Europe to BKK in January. CDG-BKK may be an option. Any word yet on what cities will have the new - retrofitted 747's by January?

Funny how personal tastes can differ. To me BA J seat on upper deck of 747 is the best biz seat in the world. The other great J seat i SQ when you sit in a front row of J cabins as there is no seat protuding in front of you. Other J seats (including the well known sogerma seats chosen by TG) offer much less space.

I think that will get air sick quite quickly if I were to travel with my back facing the direction of travel. I have not tried it in a plane but I have this problem in a train or a van.

Actually I was a oneWorld Emerald (like *A Gold but with First Class lounge access - still miss this perk:D) b4 my Company switched to *A. I absolutely loved flying back facing... I have never seen any folks having problems with this...

I does seem a bit strange at take-off and landing. But makes no difference once in the sky. Never heard of anyone ever getting sick, quite different from train/car. And it is the best biz seat in the sky when you sit on a window of the upper deck with huge amount of space.
