This summer, I'd like to take advantage of the cheap SK awards within Scandinavia to make a hit-and-run overnight mountain excursion. I'd like to visit something like an STF mountain station (emphatically no ski resorts), within a short(ish) drive from an SK destination.

Abisko (~100 km from KRN) could be an option, but I'd like to try something new. Vålådalen (~100 km from OSD) is another, but I'd prefer something a bit more alpine. The other Jämtland stations are a bit too far.

LYR would be cool, but the flight is too long for an overnight jaunt.

Any advice on Norwegian destinations?

Jotunheimen in the mountain area in the northern part of the Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim triangle. In the area surrounding the village Lom, there are several options for hiking.

Some good gateways to Lom is be Sogndal (2 hrs, map (http://goo.gl/maps/GAmP)) or Sandane (3 hrs), both served by Wideroe.

If a SK airport is a requirement, Trondheim (3,75 hrs), Aalesund (3,75 hrs) and Molde (4 hrs) are good options.

Fly to Oslo or Bergen, take the railway to Ustaoset or Finse, the whole Hardangerviden highlands is at your feet.

Trondheim et al are a bit far, but I'll look into the Sogndal alternative. Thanks! Any recommendations for accommodation?
