Having only a vague idea of who tina fey might be (SNL?), I was expecting Bossypants to be either a support garment or perhaps something in the S&M range, altho that would belong in Omni, not Women Travelers. ;)

Do you think you could update the title of this thread to reflect that it is a book review and not an evaluation of a Spanx competitor?

Given that the book is a #1 Best Seller, I doubt that too many folks are confusing it with support garments.;)

Here in the Philadelphia suburbs, it hasn't made the B&N table-right-near-the-door ranking, which is usually where top sellers hang out.

Anyhow, would it hurt to indicate in the title that this is a book review?

I experienced the same reaction while reading at the pool with other relaxed sunbathers. :) I really laughed out loud at some of her responses to those who dissed her on celebrity gossip sites.

I have recommended this book to a few women who have a tough time trying to "do everything.. career, travel, family.
I have been thanked by all to whom I have recommended this book. It's not just a barrel of laughs. Tina Fey's perspective on these issues is not sugar coated. She candidly talks about the struggles of balancing career and family.
Fortunately, humor is part of her perspective on life :)

Finally asked the info desk for it, and they said it hadn't sold at all well, so they'd sent back most of their copies, and had 2 left in the humor section. This pretty much confirmed my suspicion that this book is market specific, and not universally popular. I have to say the ugly cover put me off, but then again, I'm not a SNL fan.

I freaking loved this book! My only issue was that it should have come with a warning that it would cause me to make weird audible noises and appear to be having a seizure the entire time I was reading.

CDTraveler - save yourself the time and money. If you were put off by the "ugly cover", I can pretty much tell you that you would dislike this book by your reaction here.

As I know very little about Tina Fey, I have no opinion on her personally.

I do find it interesting that here, just about 10 miles from Fey's hometown, bookstores are having a hard time selling this book. Was in yet another B&N last night, and again it's nowhere to be found on the bestseller tables, relegated instead to the humor section.

And I'm still not sure why this thread is in Woman Travelers.

Folks, I see absolutely nothing wrong with discussing books in this forum. We've had a book club (more active at some times than others) for a good long time, and we have always been fairly open to a variety of topics.

If this deteriorates into a political slug fest, though, I'm moving it Omni.

The answer is no... As of right now, unless someone has 180 days/180 posts, they are not able to see OMNI, even if a thread in which they've previously posted has been moved there.

The comment was unnecessary & not worthy of you. People don't 100% have to like any book that is mentioned in this forum. To each their own on reading tastes.

I like Tiny Fey. Doesn't mean I'm going to shell out the $$ for the book. If the library carries it, that's fine & I'm sure I'd enjoy it. BTW - I read online that Tiny had to fight for the cover. Neither the publisher nor her father wanted the photo w/ the man's arms.

FWIW - I'd rather see all book discussions go into the book discussion or book club thread rather than see separate threads on books. But I don't feel that strongly about it - well, as long as they don't take over the forum ;) :D

I have to say, one of my favorite parts of the book was her detailed rundown of how the whole Palin thing evolved and how much she resisted it. I remember reading some of the press at the time and it's funny to read her account of it in retrospect.

A few favorite things I bookmarked -

* Rules for Improv (I read this at our team meeting on Monday am as it could also be "rules for consulting")
* A Mother's Prayer for It's Daughter (read it to my mom on Mothers Day because I loved it so - she did too)
* Her reaction to the first time she was called the C-word (and by a colleague, no less)... I got called that in a TSA line last year and the whole line went silent. I want to memorize her response because it was good.

I think I related to this book because I too grew up geeky, didn't quite figure things out with boys or socially until I was much much older (and possibly not even then), fought for a job in a male-dominated place, rose through the ranks in a male-dominated place (and still got the treatment she did), and figured out how to play by my own rules.

I anticipate this book will be one I occasionally re-read (which doesn't happen often).
