Flying from LAX-HNL next month on the A330. Does anyone know what type of headsets are included with the seat back entertainment packages? (actual head sets, or ear piece/iPod types?). My kids only do well with the traditonal head set type, and want to bring my own if they aren't available on HA.

HA uses earpiece headsets for Y class. I believe their F class has the same. On a related topic, if you are flying between LAX and HNL, you will be on an A330-200 equipped with the latest Panasonic IFE system that allows you to plug-in your ipod or whatever mp3 player via a USB connection at every seat.

Yeah, part of the reason I'm flying Hawaiian this time (other than UA being a good $200 more a ticket) is the new A330 and the in seat IFE. It's still Y class (I usually fly UA E+ to the islands), but I'm looking forward to it none the less. Thanks.

I think you'll love HA's new in seat IFE. The screen resolution is the sharpest I've seen in the industry. You'll also be able to control your reading light and FA call button from the IFE. On overnight flights, HA will send an in seat message through the IFE about arrival time and to prepare for landing and not announce on the PA too early so that the FAs don't disturb sleeping passengers. :)

As a follow up, my flights with Hawaiian were great. The IFE was indeed very good. The price ($5) for the kids package was great, and it kept them very entertained.

I was surprised at the limited number of movie choices for adults though (I dont recall exactly, but 10 or less I think). TV choices were pretty limited as well.

The new A330's are great, and I was surprised at the amount of legroom (there is no annoying bar under the seat in front of you). I am 6'2, and was comfortable the entire 5 hours. I will not pay for United E+ again (to the islands anyway). As always, Hawaiian's service was great as well.

Sounds like a good excuse to not do a pre-arrival beverage/coffee service! :D

The in-seat message appears about an hour before arrival. I think they serve drinks after that while maintaining the same mood lighting. :p
