Well I was bored a night or so ago, and spotted this on eBay and spotted this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMI-scale-1-50-airbus-boeing-model-aeroplane-/110677890560?pt=UK_ToysGames_ModelKits_ModelKits_J N&hash=item19c4ea9600

What's intresting is this looks like what "could had been" with the BMI Livery - instead of the "Whale" Livery.

Thoughts people... or are we happy to have our whales?

The aeroplane was a concept model used in the re-brand of British Midland. This livery option was shortlisted but not chosen making this model extremely rare. This model has been on display in the office for a few years but is in good condition.

Is SMB finally clearing out his cubicle? :D

I quite like it...but then again I quite like the whale livery too. In fact I remember liking all of the old bmi liveries. Shame I can't fly on bmi metal these days :(

£500 for the model - that I don't like :D

I think the 'whale' is ultimately a much stronger visual presence on the aircraft than the stripes. Although the stripes may have been easier to put on signage, etc and may have created a stronger brand. Interestingly there does not seem to be any mention of 'bmi' on the fuselage, but there would seem to be a suitable space for it. Ultimately I don't think this is as British as the 'whale' scheme. It looks a bit too close to Air France to me.

I can't help but notice the parallel between the placement of british midland and bmibaby titles, both being high and aft, an unusual place for airline titles.

reminds me of Norwegian (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Norwegian-Air-Shuttle/Boeing-737-8Q8/1894539/&sid=9fc9000667d25c3589c73a68215f65a6).

I do think the Whale is very eye catching, particularly the reflection off the metallic bmi titles.

I think you can photoshop your own fantasy livery like the dudes on this site:
http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/search/search.php?search=normal&type=&airline=BMI%20British%20Midland&aircraft=&enhancer=&sort_order=DESC&order=id&&nr_of_results=31&first_this_page=0&page_limit=10&order=id&sort_order=DESC&thumbnails=&engine_version=&nr_pages=4&page=;;;

and then order it to be custom painted/printed on a 1:200 model in China for a decent amount of money.

The same goes for FFP cards BTW: there are shops in BKK that will gladly make a HON Circle card with the bmi logo for you. And those look far better than the one Gold Circle proudly carries in his wallet ;)
