So my company books me a US/United code share flight to Hawaii.. via United.

Now, I'm told I can't upgrade the US segment (to the west coast) using miles even though I'm US silver.

It is critical to me that I fly business on such a long series of flights, we're talking 14hours or more of travel and I'm simply too tall to sit in coach for that long and be functional.

What is my best option here? Should I ignore my regular ticket and use 60k miles to get a business class award rt?

Ideas?

What is the problem these airlines seem to have with me using miles in this way, obviously I earned them through that airline so why do they care?

Bleh.. anyways, what are your thoughts on how to do this?

Regards,

Best way:

1. Find out your US segment dates/times/flight numbers
2. Whoever the ticket is booked with call and put your US DM# in the reservation.
3. Call US and make sure your DM# is in the reservation. Once that is in, ask to be put on the upgrade waitlist.

If you want flights credited to UA then its a tough call.

While you could upgrade this if you do what is suggested above, your upgrade would not be looked at until day of departure, since it booked as a UA ticket (albeit on US metal). This is something they are supposed to change in the next year, but for now, on a UA ticket on US metal, it's day of departure upgrade only. Hence, I'd recommend an early online checkin.

I read this as saying Bouncer is on UA metal but US flight numbers. The way I understand that, not only does he have to wait until day of departure, he needs to pay for UA upgrade 500 mile certs.

If it's on UA metal, then get put into E+ as quickly as you can. That's all you're going to get without paying extra.

If it's on US metal (which it isn't going to HI, but other domestic segments might be) then you can use miles to upgrade those legs in advance and get into E+ for the UA segments.
