I am a US Gold and am thinking of taking a UA flight from SFO-ICN, does anyone have any experince with getting op-upgraged on UA flights as a US prefered. Thanks for the help http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

UA 1K's have a hard time getting op-ups on flights.

Their response to questions like this is "don't count on it". I'd say the same unless you know for sure coach is waaaay oversold and you've got luck on your side and a lottery ticket. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Huh? Consider your chances less than 1%. I've been a UA Premier Executive for 5 years running and on dozens of trips to Asia have never been offered an OP UP. For context, I've been on flights in Y that left with like no seats vacant in Y and tons of room in C and I still sat in Y (was in Y because the fare I paid was too low to be upgradable). Sorry to burst your bubble, but the odds of scoring an OP UP are pretty slim. If it happens to you, that's fantastic, but it would be unrealistic to plan for it. Maybe if you were a UA 1K or UGS there'd be more reason to hope. Sorry- this isn't meant to be cruel- just a reality check.

Sorry, didn't answer your exact question about US Preferred Status on a UA international flight: If the odds of a UA 1K / 1P etc scoring an OP UP are pretty slim, would assume the odds of a US Preferred getting this are at least as austere.

I got one on a domestic leg. DEN-MCI...Y was way oversold and the agent paged me and said she had no more UA elites and was going to up me as the only US elite on board and thanked me for choosing united...

I would say your chances are about 0.0000000001%, give or take a few 0's

Hey Morrissey, is that also the chance of the band getting back together? (Sorry, could not pass that one up. Love the Smiths.)

Back on-topic, I agree there's almost no chance for a UA op-upgrade.
