My wife and I are looking to spend a few days in Idaho during a vacation the first week of May. We love outdoors activities, especially hiking in the mountains. Right now we are limited to relatively easy walking because my wife is recovering from foot surgery. I've got a few ideas of things to do but I'm curious about what else folks here can suggest. Ideas we've got so far include:

Snake River Birds of Prey (we're hawk watchers)
Craters of the Moon (unlikely it'll be clear of snow?)
City of Rocks State Park
Bruneau Dunes State Park
Hell's Canyon boat tour

What else should we be considering?

Birds of Prey is a good spot. Enjoyed my visit there. I would also say the paved trail that runs along the Boise River will offer some easy walking. So many great places to hike in Idaho. If you have time make your way to Ketchum or Stanley. Snow at ground level could very well be gone (if not already). Redfish Lake is where I would go if it's snow free (could be muddy though). Beautiful place.

All that you mentioned should be fine. Check the weather, of course. Crater of the Moons shouldn't be snow covered unless a storm blows through that week. Near Boise (relatively speaking) you could also go see/hike at the Bruneau Sand Dunes or the Bruneau Canyon Overlook. Owyhee Reservoir is unique and beautiful. The mountains still have a lot of snow so you could still do some snowshoeing. There is a hike in Boise that starts at the Old Pen (which has great tours) up to a lookout called Table Rock. Fantastic view of the city. The foothills have lots of hiking too. Boise has a Botanical Garden.
