US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - Audio Entertainment is Back (except on 737s)

I just got my hands on a copy of the March Attache, and it once again has listings for audio entertainment. It states "Audio programming is available on A319, A320, A321, A330, Boeing 757, and Boeing 767 aircraft." It appears that starting in March, there will be 8 channels of audio entertainment available.

Also, another observation about March's Attache is that it is much thicker than normal, in fact, it is 160 pages long. I guess US must be selling more advertising space.

No thanks, I'm just lurking. Call me the Lurker!

Don't know how I missed it in Attache', but if that's true, it is GREAT NEWS!

Will headphones be $5 a pop?

The headphones in coach are no longer "rented" by the flight, you pay the fee and they are yours to keep and use on future flights at no additional charge. You can also use your own head set for free, although you need a 2 prong adaptor to get sound on both sides. I am not sure about the fee, it used to be $5.00, but I thought I heard it announced as $2.00 on my last flight, but since I didn't need them, I wasn't paying close attention. FC is free.

Glad to see it return. Talk about a dumb thing to cut . . .

Wonder what would be involved with getting US to add a Ch-9 type option? I remember UA promoting that theirs was "exclusive" and in partnership with the FAA.

But it would be great if it could happen. Perhaps I hear a campaign in the works...

From the US Airways employees' web site:

"Starting March 1, audio programming and boarding music will again be available on all US Airways jet aircraft equipped with video entertainment, with the exception of the 737 fleet due to system manufacturer limitations. Audio entertainment had been discontinued since March of last year as part of US Airways’ cost reduction efforts. “Our customers and flight attendants have told us that that this amenity is meaningful to customers, so we have made this change to honor their requests,” said Director - Customer Experience and Communications Dave Navarre.

On flights with video entertainment, customers may use their own headsets or purchase US Airways headsets for $5. On flights without video entertainment, customers may use their own headsets to enjoy the audio selections; however, US Airways headsets will not be available for purchase. Information about audio selections is available in the Attaché Magazine."

You would think that at $5 a pop the sale of headsets would be revenue generating.

Now that it's March, is this actually true?
When they took it away last year, audio channels were listed for these aircraft for
2 or 3 months, bosusly.

Actually, the audio was already active on 2/27 on my PHL-LAS flight. The return on 3/1 also had audio.

It was available on my flight as well. I believe they said headsets were $5 for the movie, and were throwing them away if people gave them back. I just used the ones I already had without any problems.

Nice to see something come back. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
