I'll be flying to SFO from CLT in F with the Mrs. this summer, and have a couple of questions. First, on the outbound (westbound) odd-numbered flight, does service in F actually start at the rear of the cabin? If so, how consistent has this practice become?

Second, is the seat recline in row 4 significantly worse than row 3? I've only ever sat in rows 1, 2 and 3 on the A321. If row 4 is just as good as 3, I'll book those seats in hopes of getting first crack at the dinner menu. If it's seriously worse, then I'll book row 3 where I should still have a decent chance at getting what I want. I'm not so picky, but my wife can be and given that it's a pretty big anniversary and milestone birthday trip for both of us, I'm hoping to get the best out of this experience.

Any advice?

on odd # flts, the orders are supposed to always be taken from the back.
The seat recline isn't bad at all. If i want to recline my seat, i pick 4 rather than 3, so I don't inconvenience the person behind me

At least in the summer time you won't have a lot of people trying to hang their winter coats behind you. If there aren't a lot of coats hanging then you should have decent recline.
Only other glitch that I could foresee, and it's a very slim chance...if there is an equipment downgrade most of the other airplanes only have 3 rows of f/c and hopefully they wouldn't reassign people in row 4 to Y. Are you on a full fare f/c ticket?

Thanks for the answers! I'm booked on a reward flight- so no fare paid. I was wondering about the potential of a downgrade and losing the seat if booked in row 4.

For that reason alone I would definitely NOT book row 4.

@ACA321 I think you best worry about paid FC pax rather than a seat if you're concerned about being downgraded to Y. From what I've read here on the forums as well as suspect, paid FC passengers trump upgrades and even awards...

But go with row 3 though... 4 paxs behind you, if your flight is an odd one, can't all select what the Mrs. wants...

Cheers!!!

Thanks everyone! I'm sticking with row 3.

Good choice ^

Although still in F, row 4 is probably one of the worst not only because of limited recline but also by the time the FA gets to you, the good meals will be taken.

I do everything I can to avoid sitting in row 4 while in F during the winter months because everyone wants to hang up their coats which prevents the seats from reclining at all.

I was on a flight months ago sitting in 4C and a pax from row 6 decided they were going to hang up their bulky huge jacket. Asked me to move my seat up and I said no and put my headphones back in (not that I am ignorant, but I dont want to be inconvenienced). I get up to use the restroom about 30 minutes into the flight and come back to see this guys coat jammed behind my seat preventing my seat from moving at all.

I hate to be that guy but I can't stand when people show no respect for anyone else on a flight. The FA removed the coat and asked who's it was then made an announcement for Y pax to stay in Y
