I need to stay in Milan for one night, arriving around 7:30pm and departing around 6am. (MXP on layover)
I'm thinking of the Crowne Plaza Somma Hotel wich has a free shuttle bus I believe, and is pretty much at the airport itself!
However, I was wondering if there's anything slightly cheaper? But still with easy access to MXP at such times. Thanks!

There is a Sheraton which is actually connected to Terminal 1 - no shuttle required. However, it may be more expensive than the Crowne Plaza. At least check their prices - if they are anywhere close to what you are paying, I'd definitely opt for the Sheraton instead.
As for other properties that claim MXP proximity, sometimes it can be quite a distance (i.e, the Milan Airport Hilton (maybe Hilton Garden Inn) is at least a 15 minute drive).
Go to Venere.com and enter Milan Malpensa Airport. There are 31 hotels currently listed and they are shown on a map along with distances and prices.

Thanks!
BTW, many of those hotels near the airport seem to include breakfast. Do you think, if I asked nicely, they might be able to do me something to take-away instead, because no doubt I'll have to be gone before they start serving breakfast?

It can't hurt to ask - but quite frankly, for most of these properties, the breakfast is going to be quite minimal - so in the event they cannot accommodate your request, you aren't missing much - some coffee, bread and perhaps a hard boiled egg.

I've done the Sheraton there twice. It is still under partial construction actually (or it might have just finishedin the last month or two) but has been open since last year.
It is connected to the terminal and an easy walk.
Has free computers and internet stations set up near bar/restaurant.
I wasn't paying so I didn't pay much attention to the price. IIRC it was a tad high but what I'd expected for something connected like that.

I have an upcoming trip with a 6 AM departure from MXP and was looking for hotel options.

if you have a car, i would recommend staying north west of MXP . we usually stay in gattinara. a small town with excellent wine, decent restaurant, and very inexpensive place to sleep. it is also away from the winter fog. is about 20-30 km from the airport, most on expressway.
