Iberia Airlines Iberia Plus - Iberia Lounge Access for Codeshare ticket?

I will be flying back and froth form NY to Madrid in the upcoming months for business. While my tickets are booked through AA, they are codeshares with flown by Iberia. I do not have status with either AA or Iberia, but will be flying business class. Will I be allowed access to the Iberia lounge in Madrid with a business class boarding pass, or does that only apply to Iberia issued tickets?

Thanks!

Welcome to FT, sferrojr.

You're flying business class on IB, so of course you'll have access to the lounges in NYC and MAD, no problem. Enjoy your flights, IB Business Plus is great.

I have bought an intra-Spain Iberia codeshare ticket with Veuling in business class (SVQ-BCN). Will I have access to the Iberia lounge (if it exists) in SVQ?

The BCN-SVQ route is operated by Vueling. It's an LCC; they have no business class, nor lounges. IB don't sell VY tickets to my knowledge unless part of an intl itinerary. If they did, you should refund and just buy the flight direct from VY.

Yes they do, IB5000 coded flights are operated by Vueling, and that is a lot of flights now http://www.zakenreisburo.nl/ibnew.htm

I've got a MAD-ALC flight next week, it was booked before the Vueling deal (see link above), my booking confirmation say IB0356 but ba.com mmb now says IB5336 so I am interested in knowing if I'd get lounge access at MAD but this thread obviously doesn't provide an answer.

On the IB site it says that their own Gold/Plat have lounge access Boarding card valid on the day for an Iberia flight with code IB5XXX operated by Vueling
Regarding other OneWorld Saphire/Emeralds it's a bit cryptic,. on the one hand it says
1. For IB-5000 flights, guests must carry with them a valid boarding card for that day for any IB-5000 flight.
2.Guests must be flying with Iberia or oneworld, except for the stipulations in Point 1.
so it sounds like you get access, on the other hand
(3) A flight is considered to be a "oneworld flight" when the operator and marketing companies are member companies of the alliance.

Your link says that these are flights temporarily operated with VY aircraft on loan to IB.

That seems pretty unambiguous to me. I would not imagine being denied access to the lounge with a valid elite card and a boarding pass for an IB5xxx flight.

.

Yes, and all those flights have IB5XXX codes now, and not anyone seems to know
if they really do count as Iberia flights or as Vueling flights.
If they count as Vueling you won't earn points or miles with other OneWorld FTPs,
however you will earn Iberia Plus points when flying with Vueling regardless if it's a IB code or not.

IB don't normally sell one way flights, but these flights are sold as one way.

If it is operated by IB for sure, if it's operated by Vueling who knows.
Some flights to Palma are still operated by IB.

IŽve just flown MAD-ALC operated by Vueling, they let me in and I
also asked the lounge dragons to make sure it was not a one off, so IŽll answer my own question,
yes OneWorld Sapphire will get lounge access when they fly Iberia flight with code IB5XXX operated by Vueling

Hannibal, did your boarding card showed something like "sold as IB 5xxx"? In case it only shows VY maybe it's the best to say you've booked Iberia, but don't know why there's VY on the boardingcard? :-)

I've had the exact opposite experience. Was in BCN earlier today waiting for my connecting flight to PMI which was on a IB5XXX ticket (IB marketing carrier, Vueling operating carrier).

I'm OneWorld Sapphire and I was denied access to both the VIP lounges at BCN Terminal 1 because my flight was operated by Vueling. My understanding is that your ongoing flight has to be marketed and operated by a OneWorld carrier. They said if I was OW Sapphire through IB (IB Gold), I would be able to enter even if my flight was Vueling, but since I'm AA PLT, no go.

On a brighter note... looks like AirBerlin is set to become a full OW member sometime soon, which will open up a lot of new options in Europe.

I believe that Air Berlin only operates one single lounge. In DUS, that is...

But they have a lot of EU flight connections that are missing in the OW alliance. So as long as the airport has a OW lounge, you'll get access to it if you're waiting to catch a AB flight...

Is there an Iberia lounge located in terminal 7 at JFK?

I apologize for being a bit confused. I am flying BOS-MAD on IB in business class, but my connecting flight to PMI is an IB codeshare operated by Vueling. I have no status with IB or OW.

I know that by oneworld rules, I am not allowed lounge access as my continuing flight is not OW operated. However, the IB website states business class passengers have access, but don't go into further detail.

I assume I am out of luck in Madrid?

I believe you're still out of luck since you won't be in Business class in Vueling. If you're second tier on IB Plus program, then you get lounge access even if your flight to PMI is on Vueling.

Never hurts to try the various lounges, you might find a friendly agent that lets you in. I recently complained to IB about this, and they said they'd look into it, but no response yet.

btw, you fly this itin often?

IMHO IB will grant access to intercontinental business class passengers connecting to domestic routes recently tranferred to Vueling...just go to the lounge show your BOS-MAD IB Business class Boarding pass...and ask for a shower...if the first aswer is no ask for IB assistance, lounge dragons at MAD are not IB staff...IB knows pretty well about this situation...press a little bit...

good luck!

Anyone have experience when flying ex-PMI on IB5XXX (i.e. Vueling operated) and trying to access the lounges?

I have onward flights from MAD on the same day on Iberia, so getting into the MAD lounges is guaranteed, but wondering what people's experiences have been with accessing the PMI lounges in these circumstances?
