Hi. New to FT. I just booked a rookie MR from ORD-ONT via MSP and ATL for about $220ai. I am going to have about 6 or 7 hours in ONT and am looking for something to do in the area. Would love suggestions on how to kill a few hours. Thanks!

Well there is the San Bernardino County Museum http://www.sbcounty.gov/museum/about/facts.htm

There is the Ontario Mills Outlet Mall
http://www.simon.com/mall/default.aspx?ID=1258

Further away to the East you have the Morongo Casino
http://www.morongocasinoresort.com/

Downtown La Verne is only 10 miles away and might be good for a walk.

If you're headed out that way in the middle of the summer, find something indoors with A/C, it can get hot.

Depends on the date, flight times, your age, sex, and gonzo scale. If you can carry on a snowboard or short skis you could get an hour or two of skiing right now at Mt Baldy. That's cutting it close if there's rush hour traffic at flight time, but midweek its good in the mountains. Raging Waters waterpark is 17 miles from ONT.

Ontario Mills is a huge outlet mall a few miles away. There are wineries nearby with tasting rooms. Are you just looking for a nice meal?

Going to be there in a few weeks. Sat afternoon. leaving 11pm. Maybe a mall and a movie could work, but a bit more activity could be nice. Guessing wineries will be closed by the time i get in at 4. Thanks!!

Well if you like baseball, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are a Dodgers minor league affiliate. They'll have home games on Saturday May 7th and 21st. It actually is a pretty neat minor league stadium.

The Ontario Mills at least has a Gameworks and an AMC movie theater.

Wineries are possible. Galleano closes at 6:00. Fillippi closes tasting room at 6:30 on Saturday. http://www.galleanowinery.com/winery-info/tasting/

Cirque du Soleil-Quidam 7:30 on 4/30

I think Ontario Mills is your best bet. It's the largest single story mall in the West so you'll get your walking in. There's an AMC multiplex & 200 stores, one of the last Kenny Rogers Roasters in America and a lot of other restaurants big and small. The huge JC Penny Outlet is closing this year but is going to be open through April and May. The mortgage meltdown hit the Inland Empire hard.

I recommend a car if you're going to a place without an airport shuttle.

Renting a car kind of blows the whole concept of a mileage run.

There is a Foothill Transit bus (#61) from ONT to Ontario Mills. Never took it but the schedule says it takes 45 minutes. The is also a Holiday Inn Express and a Hilton Homewood next to Ontario Mills but I don't know if they have a shuttle to the airport.

Depending on which weekend you might catch something next door at the Ontario Convention Center. (http://www.ontariocc.com/). For example, there is a dance competition next weekend; college expo the week after; employment super show weekend of Aoril 30th; Gun show the weekend of May 14th.

There might be something going on at AutoClubSpeedway (http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/?homepage=true) as well?

The Graber Olive House (http://graberolives.com/) is on my list of things to visit here in LA - though they close at 5:30 so not sure you will have enough time? But if the travel gods are with you my guess is you could be there by 4:30.

Best way to kill 6 or 7 hours at ONT: take an Ambien.

You know I didn't want to say it or go there, but I have to agree with you. Of all the mileage run destinations, I can think of few worse. Maybe FAT....:p

4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on a Saturday (including deplaning and then returning to the airport, getting through security and to your gate). Rather limited options. What were you thinking might be your options? Going to a museum or skiing not practical, even if you could get there and back in your timeframe. If you get off the plane quickly, and can check your bags for your return flight right away, the winery or the Graber Olive House (listed on Tripadvisor as #2 on the list of things to do in Ontario) might work. I think Ontario Mills is, sad to say, your best option. You could see a movie and get dinner if you don't want to shop; there are two multiplex cinemas-- one inside the mall and one outside-- as well as a comedy club, whose name I can't recall. I saw a Quakes game and enjoyed it, but it'd be quite a cab fare r.t., whle it appears there is a free shuttle to Ontario Mills (I have not taken it).

I've been to ONT many times (my sister and brother-in-law live in nearby Upland). The airport is much less hectic than, say, LAX, but neither the airport or the surrouding area are the best for killing time. Note that once you leave the secure area of the airport, there is no place at all to eat. Some nearby hotels (e.g., Marriott, Holiday Inn, Ayres Suites) have decent restaurants and bars. As I recall, the airport Doubletree has an active bar/disco. A couple of years ago we ate at a good Indian restaurant, the Bombay, on North Vineyard--short cab ride or long walk from the airport.

I was going to recommend drugs, too, but not the kind you can buy at CVS. ;)

Thanks to all. Got bumped with a nice voucher on my first flight so at least the trip is free. Probably going to just "enjoy" all the airport has to offer since there's not much going on in the area.
