I just booked my first trip to London on US Airways (I am one of those United people) from PHL, I will be travelling in Y in the night flight (98 or 99 I think)--will the cabin be packed, or are my chances good that it will be relatively open and easier to sleep in?

It depends, but is usually light this time of year. I flew PHL-LGW on the 7th of Feb, I was in row 1 on the 330 (sweet!) but my colleague didn't want to part with 30K miles. Many in Y were stretched across 4 seats to sleep. My guess is Y load factor was 30%.

Why don't you check the seat map to get a better feel? My friend didn't act fast and all the empty rows were seized. If I were you I would change my seat assignment to a center aisle on an empty row, then snag all four seats after the seatbelt light goes off.
