Hello,

I will arrive by ferry from Dover and I need to get to Mainz (Germany) on the same day.

Is the train the best way to get there? On the bahn.de website it says there is one that takes 7 hours with 3 changes!! Blimey!

Are there any more direct coaches to let's say Frankfurt or even Mainz in the region?

Thanks!

Is there some reason you must travel Dover-Calais? Railway-wise it's a branch line on the French side. Why not check out the deals on Eurostar from London to Brussels with connections to Germany...

Better still, check on the DB website for through fares London - Germany (from €49).

I agree with the previous comments. I personally also love using the channel ferries. But if you want to travel on to Germany by train, Calais is probably one of the worst places to start.

Eurostar from London to Brussels and then ICE to Frankfurt is probably the easiest option.

If you need to go through Calais, I would believe bahn.de. (I guess they send you to Lille on a local train first, and then onward on international trains...?)

There are some Eurostar trains that stop at Calais Frethun. But both pricewise and timewise, it's worth starting the journey in London and booking it on the DB website (assuming London is the starting point of the whole journey).
