That press release is about 10 weeks old. In it they say that US joining *A will be "9-12" months. What I think the original poster is asking is if there has been any RECENT news or an UPDATE to the originally announced plans.

I think these are fair questions. Give the guy some credit instead of responding with "where have you been?" and posting an old news release.

So, anybody else have any updates on the US plans for entry into *A?

The August Attache magazine also says 1Q04, so I guess there's no new news to report.

According to the ad that US Airways plays now on the video screens during flights, entry into the Star Alliance should be complete by the first quarter of 2004.

according to the Star Alliance website, they have unanimously approved the US application and expect the official "induction" to be within 9 to 12 months (staralliance.com/ about Star Alliance/ Press room. news archives/ June 1)

From today's financial results news release:

US Airways will begin formally participating in the Star Alliance in the second quarter of 2004. Through the Star Alliance network, US Airways’ customers will enjoy benefits of 14 of the world’s finest airlines, and will have access to 700 airports in 128 countries, including each Star carrier’s airport lounges; coordinated timetables to make connections smoother; priority reservations, standby, boarding and baggage handling for Star Alliance Gold members and First and Business Class travelers; and the ability to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles or points on any member airline.

April 1 might still be the start of the second quarter, right? The *A timetables might be updated on Mar. 31 for the spring schedules.

While I am happy for the US FFs to enjoy the * benefits (they have had a lot of adverse US news to bear lately), I have a somewhat ambiguous feeling. First of all, LH touts its new relationship with US, BUT you cannot burn any miles on LH. Secondly, why do they move the long-ago announced QI join-date, suddenly to QII? Is Staralliance just waiting it out to see if US will still be around at all?

But then again, my observations might be off and it is indeed all technical?

They take longer to bother with redeeming awards than giving them money for tickets. Same thing happened with AA back in the day, and UA more recently.

For the delay, I bet the one overworked software dev at USAirways hasn't been able to get the systems to work together fast enough, so they had to push the date back a little bit.

Might very well be the case.

Getting the LH and ultimately Star redeem facility going IMHO should mark highest priority for US, as it reassures many doubtful US fliers as to where the mileage program goes. And if anything brighten the longer-term outlook for the airline.

But of course, if LH and Star are taking their time, there is little US can do.

This backs up what I have just received in my Chairman's Preferred DM letter:

"Coming soon are even more exclusive benefits and privileges for Chairman's Preferred members when US Airways becomes an official member of Star Alliance in late Spring 2004."

April is the same as "late spring" as per the 2004 DM letter from Dave.

I was told by a LH gate agent at MUC yesterday that it is April 1st. She said it was definitely that date, it is offically announced within LH.

Just an innocent question:

Will there initially be a US queue of LH seats, or will there just be a queue of FF seats available for all FF redemption from all airlines' programs? IOW, is it back to the 330-day (or whatever window LH uses) for high-demand redemptions?
