Well, after spotting by chance that US had changed to an F8 757 (resulting in me losing my exit row seat and falling further down the FC waitlist using DMUTA3 on B fare as moaned about previously) by looking at 'my itineries' they tried to stitch me up again.

I had booked an Envoy trip (saver award) LGW-SFO for myself and MRS adamwebster in July. We booked to fly A330 to CLT then on to SFO.

A week or so ago, I received an email from US saying that a change had been made to my itinery. It listed that I should look out for a change in Flt number and/or a +/- 15 min alteration. I checked 'my itineries' and saw nothing much different to what I had booked.

Again by chance I looked at 'my itineries' again yesterday and found they had made alterations. Different flt numbers, different seats, going through a different city (PIT) on, holy crap, a 767!!

Basically, it turns out that my original A330 flight now leaves 2 hrs earlier so they throw me on the seasonal 767. I'd rather get up 2hrs earlier, sit for 2 extra hrs at CLT Club (there are worse places to waste time ;-))yet still get to SFO at around the same time to fly a A330 than a 767.

I would have expected them to have updated my itineries before sending me notification that something had changed.

Anyway, quick call was made to US and the lady reverted me back to the A330. However, she did put me on hold for a couple of minutes. Think she was checking with her supervisor that she could waive the $50 change fee to book me back onto the flights that I had booked???

No. It does take a few minutes to move passengers off and on flights like that - particularly if you and Mrs. were on two separate record locators.

Always, ALWAYS call and complain when a flight change results in a routing you wouldn't choose over another routing you know about. I think the re-routing is done automatically without knowledge or regard for what you would place as priorities. In my experience the agents (airline or Orbitz, etc) have been willing to at least consider my alternate routing and generally are able to make the change without consideration of additional fees.

PS: It's spelled 'itinerary.'
