This is very cool. The guy got lucky with the aurora borealis.
This time-lapse video was shot by Nate Bolt using a Canon 5D Mark II, a 16-35mm lens, a tripod, and an intervalometer on an Air France flight from San Francisco to Paris. The camera snapped a photo every 2-30 seconds throughout the 11 hour flight, roughly capturing one photo every two miles of the journey.

Lucky....Not only was he flying to and from two of my favorite cities, he manages to get a whole row to himself and a Northern Lights show!
Very cool indeed - and much better than I expected. Excellent.
Great piece of work, thanks for posting this.

Awesome (and yet disconcerting in the TSA/air marshal era that one could set up a complex electronic rig like that...)

:D I think you meant to post this in the thread "Shooting the Details" (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-photography/1204238-shooting-details.html) in response to skyvanman's image. And honestly I would have guessed the same.

Really cool! Thanks for sharing. With the "portable electronics" rule and the amount of space the set-up took, he got pretty lucky to pull that off.

That's a really great video. Well done. It's amazing on three levels.
1) You rigged stable tripod setup inside the plane!
2) Aurora Borealis! Sweet.
3) Flight attendant didn't harass you ;)
Really cool. Thanks.

No, he didn't hassle from his flight attendant. What is so incredible that he took a nice couple shots. Wow! Unbelievable!! I could have some for me. Where I can buy a new Aurora Borealis? How much costs is that? Which store where I can buys a new video for me.
nice and really surprised the flight attendants allowed it.

Awesome...I thought they say you have to shut down all electronics  during the take off and landing?
Thanks for posting this!
If you read his comments on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/21822029), he says:
The photos during take-off and landing are all computer models and totally rendered because I would never use an electronic device when the FAA prohibits them.

Very, very cool. I am a sucker for time lapses, so a combination of time lapse, airplane flight, and the aurora borealis is of course really cool :). I got a chuckle out of the creator's comment "Thanks to my neighbors for not minding an SLR click every 2 to 30 seconds for 11 hours" haha. I also wonder how the shooter was lucky enough to not have a neighbor allowing him to set up a tripod. Lastly, my understanding with time lapses videos is that all settings should be on manual. With an intervalometer, how were the settings modified for correct exposures and focusing for all of the shots?
