I'm looking at some flights on Iberia and have a couple of questions.

I would be flying JFK-MAD on IB, then connecting to France on an IB flight operated by Air Nostrum, all in J class. The outbound connection is quite short--only 1:05 between flights at MAD. Apparently this is legal, since it is showing up in all reservations systems, but I'm wondering if that is cutting it too close to clear immigration and transfer from T4S to T4, especially given that the JFK-MAD flight doesn't have a stellar on-time record.

Any recent experiences or general advice on IB's transatlantic J class would also be appreciated. I've seen very mixed reviews here and on other sites. My other choices in this case would be AF, LH (angled flat seats but similar connecting times) or BA (my usual favorite, with great seats but less convenient schedules here), so I'm wondering how IB compares.

Many thanks.

Hi,

The IB long haul J class is pretty good ( now fully horizontally flat beds ) although last year when I flew to SCL in Chile they only had blankets ( no duvets). The food is pretty good ( better than BA).
In JFK you will be flying out of T7 and be able to use the BA lounge.

1 hour 5min should be sufficient.

I flew SCL-MAD-LHR with a 2 hour connection at MAD last year. Due to a problem with the electrics for the seats we landed at MAD 2 hours late but there was an agent at the top of the boarding ramp with new boarding passes for the next flight to LHR ( leaving an hour later) and the checked bags made it to the new flight.

Regards

1hr is sufficient in most cases but you must be quick. Your gate will provided before landing (Air Nostrum flights normally depart from gates K86 to K93 in the far north side of the main T4 terminal). If you see an IB rep at the arrival gate let him know you池e there so that the guys at the Paris gate know you値l be able to make it on time.

First you値l have to go by the passport control (cut politely the line if necessary) to get out of T4S via monorail (use the lifts as they are quicker) then look for the K signs and run to your gate. If your flight is delayed you値l find the IB lounge in the middle of the terminal (one level above the main concourse).

On 2 out of 3 itineraries on IB booked with AAdvantage, IB cancelled flights and left us with unsatisfactory options. I haven't had that experience when travelling on IB issued award or paid tickets. If you are travelling on an AAdvantage issued award I recommend regularly reviewing your booking for unexpected changes so you can take remidial action. Saying that, depending on the timings of your flights, I don't think you would have to wait long for the next Paris flight. The IB lounge in T4 is excellent by US standards. No wifi, but there are terminals for use or they will lend you cables for a standard connection.

The hard product on IB J is better than AA with proper lieflats, but not as good as BA with privacy.

Haven't flown Air Nostrum in a while, but every time I did, they were excellent.

I doubt Iberia would cancel a flight because one or more pax are flying on AA Awards... Must have been a coincidence.
