Hello Everyone,

I will be going to California in about 3 weeks to do a 3-week roadtrip. Part of that trip leads me to Monterey where my friends and I will be spending one night.

What hotels can people recommend in Monterey? I'm looking for a moderate price-range, something like 150 USD or so per room.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
-Christian

Although the Hyatt isn't on the beach, it would probably work -- IF you can get a room not facing the highway. It's an OK, not spectacular, Hyatt. Best if you have status with Hyatt, even Plat gets you free internet.

Cheaper rates during the week. On the beach, but away from Cannery Row. I haven't stayed there (I stay at the Monterey Bay Inn), but I have heard decent things about the hotel.

The Clement-InterContinental Monterey is on Cannery Row and has great views. It's a very elegant hotel. At the Holiday Inn Express on Wave Street has free breakfast as well as free parking, which is a great plus for this area.

I stayed at the IC last sept on a govt rate of $140. Very elegant hotel. My view was not so great I looked out onto space between buildings with alot of seagulls. But the room was quite nice, I loved the hotel, and the rack of lamb in the restaurant was to die for. You get a companion stuffed animal in the room.

The views from the dining room, the patio and windows throughout the hotel at The Clement are stunning. I understand that not all of the rooms have ocean views or some have partial. The location near the Aquarium is excellent, if you are visiting it also. The hotel offers packages that include the Aquarium and sells discount tickets.

We've had some very nice stays at the Monterey Plaza.

Thanks to everyone who responded. We ended up staying at the Best Western Plus Monterey Beach Resort suggested by manneca. I can highly recommend this hotel, its location is just stunning, the rooms are not large but spacious enough and quiet at night (I slept pool-side which is also road-side, don't know about sea-side).
