looking at an itinerary from US-web:
T9W14BSN / VXS197WH (outbound)
VXS197WH / T9X14BSN (return)
What the heck does all that mean?
I assume that any and all ticks bought on Expedia/travelocity are non upgradable (e-upgrades that is) - ?
Is it possible to buy 1 ticket (As above), get another on points, and use e-upgrades to upgrade both (assuming seat availability) ?

The above flights are upgradeable, even though they are cheapo fares. The only award tickets that are upgradeable are the premium awards 40k.

To find out which fares are upgradeable, go here: http://usair.com/dividendmiles/2004_preferred_upgrades.htm
The letter that is before all of the numbers in the fare codes is the actual fare type, and you can consult the chart which is about half-way down on the link above to determine exactly which fares you can upgrade, using E-upgrades that is.
If you want to upgrade using standard mileage awards, go here: http://usair.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/howtoredeem/upgrades.htm
Consult the chart for which fare type you are planning to upgrade, and once again, the fare type is the first letter of the fare code.

For bucket availability you might want to check out:
http://www.virginflyer.com/sabre.asp
And for info on booking a specific fare class, check out:
http://www.travel-picks.com
Plus, on Flight Picks (http://www.flight-picks.com) if you puch through to the next page after selecting to search by fare type, you can get all of the fare rules that are associated with the particular fare type.
Good luck!

Did anyone else notice the little footnote at the bottom of that chart in tiny little letters that says "K class fares are valid for upgrade through 10/31/04"?
