Hi US Airways Flyertalkers
I have a choice to fly First on UA(7AM) or US(9AM) transcon from PHL-SFO in a few weeks and I was wondering whom would have the better service?
I have done some searches and have turned up some older info and I was wondering if anything had changed from those posts.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan!
I do the PHL-SFO trip about monthly although always in the afternoon and always on US. I can't comment on UA but I'll say that I like the Airbuses used by US on transcon. They are definately their domestic flagship aircraft. There's usually two choices of entree at lunch and sometimes three for dinner. Meal service is usually nicely done with all the time they have (ie: clear trays and pour coffee and then bring on dessert; not thrown all on the same tray at once along with salad and entree and roll.) Movies and shorts are shown and headsets are free. I've had some of my best US cabin service on the transcons--they seem to try on those longer flights and they feel under less time pressure. Of course, it's all in who you get in the cabin.
I can say with confidence that the flights are mostly on time, may be delayed due to traffic (but remember I'm flying primetime east coast in the late afternoon) but never cancelled. I flew out earlier this winter in a snow storm when most other flights were going no where and chaos reigned. Even with the line at de-icing we were still there within an hour of schedule. With such a small west coast presence, it's become obvious to me that it is imperative that US get its aircraft out there to get everyone back here. They don't have the ability to shuffle people and planes the way they do up and down the east.
I'm actually taking the US breakfast flight for the first time on the 29th. I'll endeavor to remember to update this thread, but no promises on memory!

Justt took the PHL-SFO flt 63 yesterday. First was fine..3 choices for dinner (I had the shrimp scampi). FA was very attentive. Plane was clean. Cheesecake for dessert. Large bottle of water to take with me. Plane was right on-time. Baggage arrived quickly.
Can't ask for much more.

If only it worked in reverse (SFO-PHL).

Paid F? I'd probably choose the flight(s) with the most convenient schedule. All things being equal, I'd fly UA's domestic FC instead of US's. UA has not cut their service levels as much as US (glassware, linens, food quality).

I think US has brought glassware back on transcon flights? However, I don't think they use linens. Also with UA you have channel 9 if your in to that kind of thing.
