US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Star Alliance!! Have we died and gone to heaven?

I don't think it gets any better now that we will soon be able to use our hard earned roach miles on the * Alliance.

To start the celebration, I offer for your consideration a truly awesome screen saver. It is, a real time tracking of every star alliance flight in the air. Each flight is marked by a color coded dot.

Having a Mac, I'm not in position to check it out beyond the screenie on their website, but it looks like the gray color of our flag symbol is available, or perhaps that tealish color of Envoy ticket jackets--I think the gray is more recognizable (dark blue wouldn't show up against the ocean, I suspect).

Or maybe, like those pest commercials, just a little cochroach crawling its way across the screen to Madrid or Rome or whereever.

I know there have been reports that this will happen during the first quarter of 2004, but has anyone heard anything specific about a date.

Most other recent additions to the Star Alliance (OZ, JK, LO) have taken effect either at the end of October, to coincide with the start of the IATA winter timetable season, or at the end of March, to coincide with the start of the summer timetable.

At a guess, I would see US joining Star Alliance with effect from Friday, March 26, 2004.

I am in need of some education, what is Star Alliance? Is it another airline?, A freq. travel program?, a hotel chain? and how can
this help us use our US Air Dividend Miles?
