OK say is USAirways goes buh-bye. What will become of the hub? Would more an airline make hubs at one of the three hubs? And what happens to the mini hubs (DC, LGA..)?

If a hub goes away it will probably be PIT.

If it goes away as a hub US Airways would maintain some gates (at least 10 from the latest agreement) so long as the airline itself exists.

If that happens it is unlikely that any other airline will use PIT for a hub but you could perhaps expect to see increased flights from other airlines to pick up former US Airways customers who find competing airlines to have better schedules or prices now that they have to connect.

PIT is a wonderful facility but it's a pipe dream to count on SWA or JBLU or whatever riding into town and replacing the US Airways presence -- even if something like that happens it would be a shadow of US at their peak.

PIT will probably become what I've been flying into the last several weeks - an overly large, underutilized, sad remnant of the past - STL.

TWA used to fill it up. AA kept it up for a while, but whacked 50% of their flights recently. Now it's a ghost town - My STL-PIT RJ on Friday had about 12 people on it. At prime-time Friday consultant commuting time. I haven't flown a plane that empty in years.

At least you won't have to walk as far - who the heck designed STL?

See Concourse D at BWI also. When I flew through there last year the place looked like a ghost hub.

Seriously....What language IS that? "Would more an airline make hubs?"

If PIT goes away, it would be a sad day for all of the investors who put money up for that retail spacem in addition to the whole concept of PIT.

An empty gate is one thing....an empty storefront would be a LOT harder to "reuse". Those of us that remember the old PIT shudder at the thought of anything less than what PIT is now.
