The first "free" year is up and Mrs. PRS and I were just billed $50 plus $25 (for second card) for our RBC World Mastercards. The majority of our spending goes to our AeroplanPlus Gold Amex but since that doesn't work for Loblaws, No Frills, small stores we gave this card a try to replace our old SPG Mastercards. We spent ~12K during the year but were underwhelmed by the point earning opportunities and annoyed by how long it took RBC to integrate the card with online banking. We traveled on WJ for leisure a number of times during the year but not enough to hit their $1500 FF spending cutoff so we ended up with less than $300 in WestJet dollars.
Called RBC to see if they would waive the fee for this card or even the non-World version but they refused. So we cancelled both cards and were told we have 90 days in case we change our mind.
We are moving outside Canada in a few months so not a big deal for us but thought I would post as a reminder to others now billed the annual fee and to see what others thought of the card value.
