Travel with Pets - Arthritis in dogs
This morning, I noticed that Geno seemed to be moving a bit more slowly than normal, and seemed a bit stiff. He's 5-6, so he's not a "young" dog by any means.
He did have all-day play time at Petsmart PetsHotel yesterday, and a half day on Saturday, so I don't know if he's simply a bit worn out from that, or if he's starting to show signs of arthritis.
He and Cobaka have a vet vist scheduled in almost three weeks. I'm debating calling to see if I can schedule them sooner, or if I should wait and see for a few days, to see if he continues this way before calling the vet.
Thanks!

I would monitor Geno closely and not hesitate to move up the vet appointment if you don't see some improvement in the next day of two.

I'm upset over the thought of him possibly having arthritis. It just hammers home that he's not going to be around forever, but just the thought of that has me upset!
I should add that our house does not have carpeting, so he's always walking on hardwood floors. Is it possible that he's just walking a bit odd because they're slippery?

Maybe he's just tired or pulled a muscle romping around yesterday? Pets do get strains and sprains, like humans. Our cat pulled a leg muscle when he came running into the kitchen at high speed and slipped in some spilled water and got hurt trying to save himself from crashing into the stove. Vet said he'd be fine in a week and he was.
But if you want to read up on canine arthritis, http://www.arthritis.org/arthritis-dogs.php has some good info.

I agree that these symptoms may not be arthritis. If it is arthritis, my, oh my, we have had so many dogs grow from puppyhood to adulthood and, invariably, the older they get the more likely they are to develop arthritis. Arthritis is not a fatal disease.
He seemed a bit better last night, so I'm thinking it was just that he was a bit over-sported during play time. He was romping around last night, playing with his leash, jumping up and down, and didn't hesitate to jump on the bed. I'm going to watch him closely though, and also start taking him for some slow walks, just the two of us, figuring that some slow pace walking will be better than the power-walking we all do to try to keep up with Cobaka's pace. :)
