This may not be widely applicable but I noticed that Capital One's cashback portal link to Fairmont is offering 15% back (when paying with a Capital One card). I think only ppl w/Capital One NoHassle Cash Rewards can access it but it's certainly significant if you can get it.

Cool, I'll have to check it out. Probably won't work with the Venture card, I assume.

15 "miles" per dollar at Fairmont shows under the cash back links in my Venture account, so it will work with the Venture card.

Has anyone here actually used this link and received the Capital One points? I'm curious as to how reliably these post.

Fairmont's 15 bonus miles per dollar is interesting. It just directs you to the fairmont website with a referral link, so i assume it is not a prepaid rate. I wonder if you can book say $900 worth of hotel room at the Fairmont through Capital One's referral link, and then pay at checkout with the Fairmont Gift Certificates (that are also offered via Capital One at a rate of 51,000 Venture miles -worth about $500- for a $900 certificate).

You get to have a $900 hotel stay at Fairmont, and it only costs you $500 worth of Capital One points (about 51,000 venture miles), but you also get refunded 19,300 venture miles (15 bonus miles plus the original 2 miles/$ spent). In the end a $900 hotel stay at Fairmont only costs (51,000 miles - 19,300 miles)= 31,700 miles. So in effect you are getting a $900 stay for about $317, if you value your Venture miles at 1 cent per mile.

Am i missing something?

Am i missing something?

I was initially thinking that you would earn the 15 miles for each dollar charged to your Capital One card, but since taxes supposedly do not earn miles, the earnings may be determined in some other manner.

If the points are simply based on the base room rate as reported by Fairmont, it certainly seems possible that what you have described would work. That said, I'm sticking with my initial guess that you would earn 15 miles for each dollar charged to the card.

That would be my initial guess as well, but just in case someone else might have had a different experience, i though i should ask.

Since it's a referral link, the bonus usually does not depend on the form of payment. In that case, using Fairmont certs would be like any other form of payment and you should get the bonus even if paying any/all of the bill with something other than the Cap One card.

If however, the bonus points are only awarded for the amount paid with the Cap One card, then no double dipping. It appears that this is the case, as the terms for the bonus state "Miles are earned when using your Capital OneŽ credit card for qualifying purchases made when linking from this Web site."

A number of folks have ordered and received the Fairmont gift cards using Cap One points. If they make a reservation using the Cap One link and pay with the certs, we'll soon know what happens. Either they receive a $900 Fairmont credit for $500 of Cap One points and that's it, or they receive a $900 Fairmont credit and 13,500 additional Cap One points for their $500 worth of Cap One points. Either way it's a great deal, but it's a ridiculously great deal if it's the latter.

Is there still a way to get 15% off at Fairmont? I can't find the link on the NoHassleRewards website. I have a Venture One card.

Unfortunately, it's long gone. Though Fairmont does have a few points available booking through the Chase Ultimate Rewards site...

I haven't had great success getting them to post though.

I haven't had great success getting them to post though.

I usually wait about a month to two to see if they post, and if not, I send a secured message through to their customer service. They have done a "courtesy adjustment" each time within 48 hours.

Cap1 site now has fairmont back up at 5%.

Little better than Chase, but I still booked through Chase just for the freedom of redemption.

Thanks for the heads up. I loved the old 15 points per dollar they used to give. This is better than nothing though.
