That would be fantastic. Stepping in dog crap isn't fun.

This is excellent news, even if compliance is only 50%. The quantity of dog crap on the sidewalks seems to be increasing, and walking is often an obstacle course.

I've never stood on a dog crap yet in BA.
I'd rather they concentrate their efforts on getting rid of the graffiti that human arseholes make.

I've talked with a few first time visitors to BA and the graffiti is always one of the first topics they mention. I know it was one of the things I noticed when I first arrived.
What type of example is set for the kids when you have political graffiti being encouraged. It can be seen on the roadside on the whole 100 mile stretch of road between BA and here.

Yes, the political graffiti is especially pathetic...

Unfortunately, yes it was... :)
I did learn that in Argentina, the April Fools equivalent is on December 28 and called "Dia de los inocentes."

I was once told by a local that the mayor usually dedicates a large portion of his campaign time to his plans to clean up the dog poop...
Anyways, I don't think the graffiti in BSAS was any more noticeable or prevalent than any other large Euro, North American or South American city I've been to.

I think the problem goes beyond the poop. I found Palermo, Recoleta, and other nice neighborhoods relatively clean, but downtown, the "microcentro" is a lot of garbage, papers. Any downtown is dirty, but in B.A. the problem is really serious.

Until recently, garbage was simply thrown out on the curb, in small garbage bags, and then people would pick through it. Finally, there are larger rolling dumpsters for the block where the garbage is supposed to now go (also picked through but a bit more stable than just hundreds of misc. garbage bags plopped on the sidewalks.

The dog shidt in BsAs is one-of-a-kind, no?

I was on New Year's eve in dec. 2009. Downtown was full of papers and garbage. I thought it was kind of a tradition, cause I remember in Lima downtown they used to throw papers from offices windows every dec.31..
However I was in B.A. this last january, and walking by Reconquista, looking for a good bar, there were lot of papers thrown across the sidewalk. Dumpsters are not enough, or there's a more serious problem...

School kids here at the end of term rip up and throw their class work in the air as they exit the school. :D
Compared to the UK litter here doesn't really seem to be as much of a problem I have to say.....certainly not where I live.

Shock of all shocks. I may still be in shock.
I saw a woman walking her dog, and then it took a crap. I then saw her grab a bag and pick the crap up. I do not believe I have ever seen this activity in this city. This occurred on Peru, probably between Mexico and Chile. This was actually more shocking than seeing posters to celebrate the Cristina election victory even before the election has been held.

How timely that I should see this thread today...
Only just yesterday, I walked out my front door in Chacarita casi Colegiales o Palermo, to see a quite elderly man and his (also perhaps elderly) dog making a stop directly in front of my front door... I think to myself, what a shame as the sidewalk had just been washed off and was still looking rather nice...
As I stood at my front door expecting the worst, after the dog had done its business, the man fished a plastic bag from his pockets, scooped up the mess, and put it somewhere not in front of my house! ^
Lest we get too excited about this, I'm reasonably sure he did this only because I happened to walk out my door and see him and his dog mid-act... and this suspicion is further supported by the 4-5 droppings left on my sidewalk since then.
Still, if one had told me four years ago that most streets wouldn't be flush with torn-open trash bags that had been routed through by cartoneros who took care to throw things as widely as possible, I'd have stuttered in disbelief. But my street seems rather clean (except for the dog droppings, which somehow seem to concentrate on my patch of sidewalk), and the decimated trash bags all over the place do seem to have withered away in recent months. Little steps.

Yes, the dumpsters placed in each block on the streets seem to help.

In major news, Macri seems to have ordered a massive street cleaning program tonight, which appears to have been quite effective. The dog poop should be pretty well cleaned up my morning. It blew through like a storm, so I hope it worked.
