US and ANA don't really overlap much - seems like the codeshare agreement should be pretty simple, if it even makes any sense.

In the USA, ANA flies to:
LAX
SFO
ORD
IAD
JFK

plus HNL and YVR

Not like US has a big presence in any of those places... (or in the case of JFK, no presence at all). From a brief look at the schedule, I'm pretty sure that all of those cities have only US flights to hubs.

Since ANA generally runs no more than three flights total to each of those cities, either the schedules match up in both directions, or they don't.

Finally we are getting some quality airlines like LH and NH into the program.

With this, and the future Star membership, perhaps US will start servicing JFK from some places....

Perhaps a nonstop NRT-PHL flight in the offing?

NH premium cabins are up there with and some would say better than CX and SQ.

They don't serve JFK at all. American Eagle used to from PHL - no idea if they still do. US used to have a nice presence at JFK in the early '90s, but that seemed to disappear after US terminated the relationship with BA.

This is welcome news. I have never flown UA transpacific, but did ANA in coach 2 summers ago. Was a pleasant experience. Seats had footrests, Passport-like in-seat video with video games.

Excellent service and food.

I would welcome flying ANA again with greater reason now.

The Asian carriers in general tend to be on the cutting edge of IFE technology.

Unfortunately, the intra-Japan flights that I have taken (both ANA and JAL) all had tiny seats with very short seat pitch. I'm not all that big (6'1") and my knees were up against the seat in front of me. Must have been 29" pitch.

The IFE and service were very nice, though.
