US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Upgraded against my will

View Full Version : Upgraded against my will

OK, so the subject line is little melodramtic. But here's my question.

Mrs Idowrite and I went up to BOS for the weekend, taking advantage of the cheap PHL-BOS fares. (Got home just fine this morning, too.) I've always thought that these flights are simply not worth upgrading; even if it's just one e-upgrade, the flight is so short and the first product so lame, the value's just not there. Anyway, on both flights US sat us in F--even though I never requested an upgrade. And when I checked my balance this morning, I saw the they had already deducted from my upgrade balance for the first flight.

Has this ever happened to you? I know it's only 2 e-upgrades each, but is this worth taking action over?

I know it's unusual to complain about getting sat in F without even asking, but I think I should have the freedom to decide where and when to use my upgrades.

This is only a guess but does your Fqt Fyr profile include preferences that might have caused this? If so, you could modify them but you might lose advantages on flights where you want FC upgrades and time of requst is important. Also at the gate for ck-in you should be able to return to coach if you want. Thanks again for flying US. Happy Holidays.

Something to think about trying:

Letter 1 -- After your monthly statement arrives, report only the discrepancy about the loss of upgrade options on your account, asking for recrediting of thos options.

Letter 2 -- After you get a reply saying that you took the first class seats, say (2a) you did not request the upgrade and (2b)you thought that the reason you got seated in first class was that the plane was full and they needed to shift some people around.

Nothing wrong with being upgraded without warning but the upgrade should be free.

The airline suffers no great loss by giving you back the upgrade options for future use.
