Ok. So I did count my blessings every time I got off a B1900 alive. But really, ending service to APF? Those flights always seemed packed with PAX paying top dollar for a ride on an egg beater.

US service to Naples, Fl ended earlier this summer. Seems that there was too much competition from nearby Ft Myers airport.

Or perhaps RSW (Regional SouthWest Airport).

There had only been 3 or 4 B1900's per day from TPA to APF. The obliteration of the intra-Florida network made this very difficult to support.

I really miss this service. It cost more most times than going to RSW. It was great, though, stepping off a plane, and being at my parents' place in 10 minutes! I also loved showing up 40 minutes prior to departure, and having 35 minutes to spare! It got bad at the end, though. There was one agent who checked in passengers, ran security, offloaded bags from the incoming flight, loaded the new flight's bags, did the flight paperwork, and boarded the passengers. We would see her do so much that we often wondered if she would end up flying the plane!

APF was great. Free parking! One commercial gate (well, 1A & 1B). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

For a time they actually had lost all commercial service, but CO just restarted flights.

Oooops! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif Well it has been like 20 years since I flew in there.

APF doesn't need commercial service. Most people who live in Naples can afford to fly privately. Additionally, most have started driving to FLL (only an hour if you haul ... down the alley) for flights, since you can go nonstop just about anywhere from there.

I don't know about that. The same could be said for Love Field vs. DFW (hmmm, DAL is another airport that US doesn't serve).

Last USAirways flights to Naples were 15 June 2003, which left Naples without commerical air service.

However, starting 18 December 2003, Continental Connection starts 4x daily service between Naples and Miami.
