Las Vegas - First time in Las Vegas...what should I see?

I’m going to Vegas for the first time and I really want to see a big-name show while I’m there to complete the experience. I’m going down next month and am open to suggestions – any recommendations from Vegas veterans?

Everyone has different tastes in performing artists, so I won't recommend any. Most are not-family friendly (ranging from PG-13 to adult), but there are a lot of big names.
But really, the strip is so amazing to just walk around and look at. Stop at any of a dozen open bars on the strip, grab a drink, and walk around (yes, you can!) to see the Bellagio fountains, the Forum shops at Caesar's Palace, and a dozen other amazing things. Have a drink in a bar made entirely of ice. See tigers, lions, a huge Chihuly glass display, and so much more!
But wear your walking shoes. The hotels are HUGE, and you can put on a few miles without even going into any.

candysays, welcome to FlyerTalk. FlyerTalk has a dedicated Travel->Las Vegas forum and I'll move this there. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

It really depends on what interests you. If you love doing touristy things then by all means walk up and down the strip, but otherwise just stick to a few casinos for sightseeing and move on. Each one has their own draw to bring tourists in but honestly most of the attractions are a 20 min affair then it's time to move on.
Usually Caesar's has some headlining show (Cher) but you can't go wrong with the major Cirque du Soleil shows (O, Mystere, Ka, Love). Sometimes there's limited engagements going on but I don't know of the major shows happening at the time. If it's in one of the major upscale casinos it will likely be at least a decent show. Were there any that interested you in particular?

Just found out Celine Dion is coming back to Vegas next month with a whole new show…SO STOKED!
I was really impressed by Penn & Teller. Their show is great and you can meet them after the show for autographs and pictures in the lobby.

Last time I was in Vegas my wife and I went to see Celine Dion in concert. I never really listened to her music before then, but I have to say her performance completely opened my eyes. She is a truly gifted singer and you should definitely check her out.

If you're asking specifically about shows, I'd recommend Ka as the most "technically" impressive, LOVE as the most creatively and visually impressive, and Wayne Brady (if he's around during your visit) as the best all around show by a headlining performer.

See the incomparable Bellagio fountain show completely free. Just stand on the Strip in front of the Bellagio preferably after sundown. For a strater, see

The volcano at Mirage, the (real) sharks at the pool at Golden Nugget, the "scene" at The Hard Rock Casino on weekends nights, the Horse-Around "bar" (now actually a ice cream parlor) at Circus-Circus, the flower garden at Bellagio. All free, by the way.

I think this board is the stiffest most dry website on the web.
(since some still won't get what I mean: I wasn't really recommending the OP visit porn slappers, the Imperial buffet, the money wheel, etc...)
Seems a few people need to lighten up and laugh a little. I'll help: Go see Robert next time in Vegas:

Thank you! :)
It's a tough crowd I tell ya, a tough crowd!
BTW - I'll second your Bellagio conservatory. Walking from the fountains to the lobby to the gardens is not to be missed.
I'd also say you need to find your way to the top of either Mandalay Bay, The Palms, Rio or the Strat. Having a drink and enjoying these views are a nice treat.
