View Full Version : how to prepare for the weekend?

This next weekend, since Mr. Kipper is out of town, I'm going to spend the weekend with a friend out of town. I know I can pretty much throw any sort of "diet" out the window, based on where we'll be, what we'll be doing, and the fact that we only have weekends like this once every five years or so, and it's more of a good time than anything else. Really, I guess part of it is that I don't want to pay attention to what I'm eating this weekend. Which, yes, I know is horrible. But, I'm figuring that I don't do this regularly, and I haven't had a weekend like this in years.

I will be doing a lot of walking--we'll be going to our alma mater, so walking is easier than trying to deal with parking.

So, my thoughts on how to prepare are to decide to do one or a few of these:

Just stick with what I'm doing for the week, throw caution to the wind for the weekend, and get right back on the horse on Sunday evening.
Try to cut back even more on what I'm eating this week and next week, to make up for what I'll splurge this weekend.
Add in more exercise the next few weeks to compensate (and probably end up just incorporating that into my daily routine).

What are your suggestions?

No, IMO, this is not a horrible thought, knowing you are likely to set your diet aside for the weekend. No diet based upon denial can succeed long-term.

If I wanted to enjoy my time with my friend, and I did it only rarely, I would put as much focus as possible on having a fun, memorable time with them while we are together - diet be damned. In fact, I sort of did that this weekend.

To compensate, I would do mostly 2, with some 3 thrown in for good measure. :)

I'm going to try to squeeze in extra activity this week and next then, although today is out, since I have a meeting after work from 6:30 until 8:30, and it's an hour away from home. :(

But, that means that tomorrow, I need to get up early and get moving! :)

I find that when I work hard all week to squeeze in the extra activity in anticipation of a splurge weekend that I end up not indulging as much as I prepare to... something about all that hard work and such. ;)

I also will "front load" or "back load" a week if I know I'm not going to be able to make the gym. I have a weekly goal and if Fri,Sat,Sun are off the table I just pick it up Mon-Thur.

We're not meeting until Saturday afternoon, so I'm able to behave on Friday night and Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning is going to be bad, but then Sunday night, I'll be right back to it.

If you know where you are going to eat, then look at the menus online. I ALWAYS do this before I show up to a restaurant. I've found I'm much more likely to make a healthier choice when I pick in advance. It also makes me budget for the splurge.

I have a good idea where we'll be going, and I know what I'll be ordering there. Same places we always go. :)

I'm home from the weekend, and have gained at least a pound. :( But, it was great fun, I tried several different beers. For dinner, I had a cheeseburger club, which while so horrible for me was so delicious. Lunch today was a buffalo chicken cheesesteak.

Back on the wagon tomorrow, dutifully following Weight Watchers.

I've often discovered that a weekend gain of a pound can generally be lost in a few days of good exercise and diet. It doesn't generally stick around unless you continue to eat badly and not exercise.

Now, of all things, I'm down a pound from where I started on Friday! I'm assuming much of this is all just water.

That said, I'm dutifully following Weight Watchers today. I've already logged my breakfast points. My only decision is dinner--what to have/where to go.
