Gaming Loyalty Programs - Revel Casino Atlantic City

I understand this post is not about a loyalty program specifically, but I think this is the most relevant forum.

I've been watching the news on Revel since it got going in 2007 and have been anxiously waiting for it to be completed. I was excited when I heard the construction would continue this year off tax breaks from the state. The below business week article does a pretty good job of getting the reader up to speed. What does everyone think in the forum? Happy about Revel? Angry about Revel? Don't really care about Revel?

A few of my thoughts: (1) with Penn. casinos in full swing, isn't the gambling market over saturated in the AC region? Won't Revel draw business away from the existing casinos? (2) Borgata attracts lots of people since it is the first (and only) casino in AC which was built from scratch as a gambling place--Revel (now the 2nd:)) might cut into Borgatas profits more than the others(?) [The (new)grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.:D]

Revel is not coming at a good time for AC. Gambling revenues have been sliding for years and the construction of a large new casino will in the short term be a boost to AC as people come to check out the Revel. In the long term though, the Revel will become like the Borgata, which has slipped badly in recent years. The Borgata was the new kid on the block and the first AC casino that was on par with casinos on the Vegas Strip. The Revel sounds like it is going to be amazing but with AC a drive from NYC and the reputation of AC not being all that great, the casinos in CT and PA are getting a lot of the day trippers who may have otherwise gone to AC.

Increased competition in a bad gambling enviroment does not spell well for AC casinos. There is a glut of hotel rooms without the Revel and I see some of the lower quality casinos closing down.

Revel is planning to open in 115 days (and 7 hrs+:)) from now, which should be May 11. From a few sources, it will be a non-smoking casino.
I personally find the n/s a huge plus^^.

Looking forward to seeing what the Revel has to offer but to start, they couldn't have picked a worse location/neighborhood. Near the Taj and Showboat and Taj with it's multiple carjackings.

Why do I valet park only in Atlantic City?

Because the chance of getting mugged/murdered in the parking lot has become increasingly more common.

I think Revel will help Showboat a *LOT* with foot traffic.

Rumors are they are expected to open in April which is earlier than they planned on. I know a few people who are working there/were recently hired.

I think an exception could be made for the casinos on the Marina. Borgata, Harrahs and GN are pretty good in terms of the security patrolling and being well-lit. I usually never have any concerns about my safety with those 3.
