Update for those new to this thread: Confirmed July 2nd 2011 the "Fairmont Flyertalk Golf Do" will be happening. I will PM the time to all those coming. Post #15, the last on this page has more details. The course sells itself and get a chance to enjoy it with other Flyertalkers. PM me if you want to join or have any questions.

Original Post: Okay now it's official. Flyertalk Golfdo 2010 was a great success. All participants were quite happy with the 2 for 1 the hotel extends to their Premier and Platinum guests.

If you've been paying attention to the Fairmont forum here you've noticed hints at 2011, well now it's official. I'm hoping we can at least double our group size this year. For those who want to attend and don't get 2 for 1s I'm sure we'll have a few members with certs to welcome you for half price golf. Personally I know I won't be able to save my free passions round till then.

Last year we had this during Canada day long weekend, we can continue with this date or select another. 2010 we only had a few participants, but a big fanclub, even Ancien can tell you we had prob 10 ppl talk/take pictures with us on the teebox near the hotel!

It's a spectacular course and I'm hoping to get a few more flyertalkers and your friends to enjoy the experience. Those too far to travel don't fear 2012 the location will switch.

I'll express interest in this 'do' and Canada Day weekend works for me right now. That being said, will need to confirm as we get closer to the date.

Don't forget the free round of golf if you select the passion for your platinum profile. That round of golf is free subject to Terms and Conditions.

I think we should wait out for another couple weeks, see if we get any more interest and then try to find a date that suits the most Fairmont Flyertalkers and Friends. I'm quite flexible with the date myself.

I did meet Steve by chance a few days ago who is the Director of Golf at the Banff Springs. I didn't talk to him about our "Do" yet bc I had a few other questions for him. I did get his biz card and will be in touch with him over another matter (My hole in one Flag) so when I do and we have a date set I will make sure he knows about our arrival.

Looking forward to sharing the links with you soon ^

So back to dates. I was thinking either Saturday June 4th or Saturday July 2nd. If everyone could pick a date and reply or PM me I will setup a tee time this week. As for the actual time of day, this I will leave till I find out who can come and then we'll find out what works best for the participants.

Once again feel free to bring any family or friends you have. If we get a big enough group I'll work a few tricks and get some fun prizes too.

I know ppl will be using their Passion round and 2 for 1s. Once we are closer to the date we'll work out the logistics for the 2 for 1s so everyone gets the best deal possible.

So depending on what type of golfer you are, either get those clubs or coolers cleaned and the Banff Springs Golf Course with their very warm staff will be ready for us!

Unfortunately June 4 is CFA exam day, so I am unavailable. I can make July 2 work.

I won't be able to make June 4th as I'm on my way to KEF and OSL. I could make July 2nd though.

Chances are better for me to make it on the July 2nd date. Maybe another cause for celebrating Canada Day long weekend.. woohoo.

Looks to me the Fairmont Mayakoba is at least July 5th on..

My fellow golf comrades, we can confirm July 2nd 2011 the "Fairmont Flyertalk Golf Do" will be happening. For those who can't make it please read the last paragraph of this post.

I just e-mailed Steve at the golf course with our plans and asked to secure the first twilight time for our group. This may be changed but I did it because it's very early in the afternoon (Still 3.5 hours of sun AFTER we finish) and it's $155 vs $225. I know many ppl will be using up their Passions but for those using the 2 for 1s it works out to $78 per person which is an absolute steel at the banff springs. If the participants want to play earlier the tee times are easier to get too.

The tee times have a 48 (Maybe 72) hour cancellation policy so please keep that in mind too in case you can't make it.

I will also email my contact at the BSH who has given me good group rates before and these will be extended to everyone here also. The current rates for this weekend at the hotel are high so I want to do everything I can to make sure as many flyertalkers show up and enjoy the castle as possible.

As for #s right now I've requested 15 tee times. The list of flyertalkers who've expressed interest:
quank
CanuckFlyHigh
benjamyn85
igloocoder +1
AncienMaestro
kokinos +3 (Another Platinum Member too but not yet a flyertalker)

So thats 10 ppl. But I think this # will grow and I can always CXL a few tee times so it's better to be safe. If we end up getting at least 10 ppl I will supply a few prizes and ask for the course and BSH if they want to donate anything too

In case you are planning to use a 2 for 1 but need another person either try to arrange it with someone in this thread or let me know and I can easily find someone. Foursome pairings we can arrange game day or before if you prefer. Depending on tee time we can have a group lunch before/after the round too. Perhaps if your SO doesn't play golf they can join us for a meal.

Lastly if possible I will try to arrange it so we start from the original #1 hole which is right next to the Stanley Thompson wing of the hotel. When they built the clubhouse this was changed and imo it shouldn't have.

If you haven't heard July 28th the Telus Skins game will be played at this course. Even though I heard rumours of this a month ago I didn't clue in a book a rez at the springs! Well save yourself the time and don't even try, it's booked but the golf will be a great experience to watch. I was there when Nicklaus, Norman, Garcia, Daly and Ames played and will be there in 2011 too. The players aren't announced but I hear it will feature a full Nike sponsored lineup so that can be good even though their #1 Woods you can't expect.

For those who can't make it I'm planning to hit the Springs course on June 4th with some friends anyways. Right now my group for that day is 5 ppl (4 FPCers) so if you want to join feel free to let me know.

I've been looking into a stay at the Springs for the July long weekend.. We'll see, or take a day trip.. Do we have an extra 2 for 1 floating somewhere I can hook up and partner up with?

I would prefer to pay $78, or use my 2 for 1 certificate rather than waste my Passions (use that for full price).

If anyone is in, let me know. I might also have a +1

CanuckFlyHigh.. Count me in as your partner on your 2 for 1 cert.. At 2:00 pm on (twilight), should be the $78 you mention on the 2 for 1 cert.

Kokinos and I did this last year.. a deal on a deal.. I like that.

Ive got 2 passion rounds and would like to save that for 2 week vacation at Fairmont Mayakoba.

Kokinos.. Once everyone confirms, its probably best to assign Tee times in each of the Flyer Talk members name.. The no show policy could get really expensive for you. @16 FTers, that's a bit of risk if someone doesn't show up. Your final call though.^

I know what you mean, once we have concrete #s the course and I are going to come up with a solution Mid June.

Here are a few more details for everyone. In July 2011 twilight is starting at 3:00pm however the course has extended it to 2:00pm for us. I was told the twilight rate this year is $185 so using 2 for 1 this works out to $92.50 per player including cart. They have also offered a rate of $175 in case anyone can't get a 2 for 1.

From the PMs and this thread I know many of you are also using your Passion round. Since there are many different types of payment the course is fine with figuring out everything on the day of the "GolfDo."

Since the turnout is looking good I will work on getting a few prizes together. These will be awarded on a long drive hole and Closest to the Pin on #4 the Devils Cauldron. Also may give one out to Best Hat or a Water Hole draw so you don't have to be a good golfer to win either.

We'll see what I come up with but I have organized many fun corporate golf trips in my day. I will also talk with my contacts at the course and hotel to see if they can throw in any Fairmont gifts for us Flyertalkers/Fairmont Fans.

Feel free to throw out any ideas or questions...

@Kokinos.. I guess you'll need our real names, and probably some info.. or can you book with our FT user names? ;)

@CFH.. I'm still game with Your 2 for 1 cert at $92.50.. its perfect we can get out at 2:00 pm.. even though I've got 2 passion rounds of golf. Maybe I'll take a lesson before heading out.. got two of those too.

By Costco today.. I didn't see the Fairmont Banff Springs Golf certs out yet.. If any FTers find some, it'll give you an additional 20% off.^

Actually it would be hilarious hearing the starter call out "quank, CanuckFlyHigh, igloocoder and AncienMaestro on the tee please" followed by "kokinos....

So anyone else up for this GolfDo? We still have a few places left.

I also got in touch with the hotel and if anyone needs a room bw July 1-3 they offered a deluxe room for $349 per night. If you would like to book this please PM me and I will forward you details.

Lastly thanks to the flyertalkers who have offered to bring a few very nice prizes. Looking forward to sharing the links at the castle with all of you soon!

Thanks for the kind words AM. I was in Europe the last 3 weeks so wasn't on the board. If anyone has any questions or still wants to join please let me know.

Is anyone also using their "Passion Complimentary Lesson" this day? I was thinking about it but decided to save it for another trip.

Sorry gents for taking so long to respond but I still think back at the wonderful day at the Springs. I had a lesson here last week and will have to agree with Ancien the instructor was excellent. It was very nice to meet you igloo, our dinner went late and I didn't make it to the Rundle for that drink you promised me so I look forward to it next time.

Ancien as always whenever we see each other it's sharing world class golf courses, where will it be next? Who knows maybe that little island you love in the Pacific...

Reports now that the golf cert can be used on Maui.. will have to burn a cert or two at the Kea Lani..

Perhaps JPL is the next destination.. its a wonderful golf course as well..

We shall see how the golfdo scenario works itself out next year.. but certainly the Springs is where its at..

I met the President of Stanley Thompson Society David Moote a month ago.. and he's taking over the care and maintenance of our community.. I was one of the BOD members that authorized his contract.. I think our community will soon look like the Banff Springs course.. applying his environmental expertise to the care of our community..

Back out to the Banff Springs Golf Course this last Sunday and had the pleasure of golfing with another Fairmont employee, and a couple of Banff Spring Golf Course Members..

Let me enter into the annals of FlyerTalk.. that I had a birdie on #4 - The infamous Devil's Cauldron.. and a second birdie on #15.

I made a put perpendicular, in other words sideways at #4 and had it roll downhill into the cup.. and first time in awhile, I've had 2 birdies in one round.. The memories continue at the Springs.^

Congrats on the 2 birds AM! I also played Banff Springs a few weeks ago and loved every second of it.

I also got the Free Taylormade rentals for FPC members at the Empress and it's a very nice set of clubs to use. They came with those new White woods so I felt all hightech while golfing with the 2011 gear unlike my personal classic blades.

Funny.. when we stayed at the Empress years ago, I took out the Taylormade rentals as well.. to use a local golf course..

At BSH, I did eye up the new set of clubs handed out for rentals.. of course, the rentals aren't free there..

My bird on the Devil's Cauldron #4, I literally had to putt perpendicular 90 degrees to the hole as the ball had to roll down a severe hill.. so the gentlest nudge, and caught the right side of the cup..
