Based on the Fitbit I did 70 miles total walking in February, 107 miles on March and 125 miles in April.

It's been a while since I've posted. When I'm not being fitness oriented apparently I dare not show my virtual face here. Things have really been stressful and busy over the last month. We've been eating out a lot and I've not been exercising as regularly. I thought if I came clean I might be able to get back on track. So here it goes.
After three years here in the middle of nowhere I have finally established a friendship with someone. But she has a 4 month old baby which is kind of hard on me because we've been trying so long to have a child of our own. The good news is that I am just awesome with babies. Sometimes that just makes it worse. I think that my downward spiral started in March when I began to realize that we may have to spend a lot of money to achieve parenthood. Having a nice dinner out makes me feel special (since we hardly ever did it). So I've filled my emptiness with fats and sweets.
Things got a little better in April when my husband had a nibble from a company that offers adoption assistance. He flew down for an interview at the end of April but we've not heard anything since. I don't know what that means. In light of the way that my job is going leaving town felt like a really good idea. Considering the expense of traveling to and from my job and ridiculous income and property tax rates here, I could be a woman of leisure in TX without taking much more than a $10k income cut.
We've been working on the house pretty hard lately since I'm off for the summer. We've taken down the popcorn on the first floor ceilings. It's hard and messy work. That got me to thinking about how I was able to lose so much weight last summer. I was working so hard on the house last July and August that I didn't have the time or energy to eat so much. Saturday night I made a long list of things to accomplish on the house. I've probably got two weeks of solid work which could occupy me so that I can't eat crap.
I had planned to start my list today after the new fridge was delivered. But when the fridge got here it was just a smidgen too wide. That just ruined my day. I just kept on truckin' trying to do stuff on my list and I was eating well but I was so stressed by the day that I had a headache by the time my husband got home. So my day ended with a meal from MacDonald's. :(
Tomorrow is another day. I'll spend the day putting the house back together. My neighbor is coming over to look at the fridge situation to give us some advice. I'm going to have a successful day tomorrow.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Tomorrow *is* another day.

Katja is right, tomorrow is a new day.
You can always show your virtual face around here, whether you are being fitness oriented or not. We're here to support each other, through good times and bad.
I'm sure it must be tough being around a friend who has an infant when you are without, and there are no magical words or potions to make that wound hurt less. If there were, we'd all be waiting in line to share those with you. Ditto for if there were a way to make you a mom instantly.
Don't sweat over the fridge situation. Instead, focus on how wonderful it will be when you can fill your new fridge with all sorts of healthy snacks and meals! If it's a smidgen too wide, there are usually all sorts of answers, from shaving a hair off of a cabinet to relocating the fridge. When we bought our new oven a few years ago, we had to move it, including rewiring for the plug, because it wouldn't fit where the old oven had been.
As far as eating a nice dinner out, you can prepare a very nice dinner at home, with minimal day of the meal effort. It'll be healthy, and it'll give you and your husband a chance to break out the good china. :)
Since you're off for the summer, take a day or two, once you finish your house list, celebrate finishing that, and destress. Go to a spa for a day, get a manicure, pedicure, massage, and facial, and then the next day, go get your hair all dolled up. If there's a Seasons 52 around, make reservations for that night, and tell them you're celebrating your anniversary, even if you aren't. Get all dolled up for your husband, and the two of you go out for a nice dinner that's healthy. Book a hotel room for the night, and refocus on the two of you.
If there isn't a Seasons 52 near you, then select another restaurant, but plan your meal ahead of time, so you can really enjoy it when you arrive. You've always been really good at eating salads, veggies, and fruits in advance of your meals out, so if necessary, follow that. :)

I decided over the weekend that I need to get my sorry butt back in shape, so back to walking/biking, some weights & 'mindful eating'. So set some goals & enlisted a FT friend to help keep me on track. Of course me being me, I did too much in the last few days so taking today off & will pace myself better.
Cheers.

I dream of having a Seasons 52 in town!
The fridge situation is being worked on right now. It's really stressful to watch so at least my heart rate is up! :D Right now my neighbor is routering the cabinents. This is after he pulled up the granite, cut a hole in the wall, and slid said granite into the wall. The good news is he's sure it's going to fit.
After this I have a day of housework planned. I'm going to head to the grocery store to pick up some decent food. With the kitchen looking perfect, it should fun to use it again.

I had a pretty good day to today all things considered. I didn't get a ton of exercise but I ate well most of the day. My downfall was at bible study tonight. I did the snacks so I bought a huge watermelon and a honeydew melon. I also made a spinach dip out of one of my weight watchers cookbooks. But the host put out some honey roasted nuts and M&Ms. Thankfully I only have about 1 bowl of the candies and one bowl of the nuts. It could have been much worse!
The fridge finally went in fine it took about two hours to complete and was quite the stressful event. But it was $150 well spent. The really neat thing about the fridge is that we can now use the ice maker and water in the door. The old fridge smelled really bad (you can see my old OMNI post about it) and the water took on the flavor of the fridge regardless of filter changes and waterline flushing. Now that water tastes great and I drink it instead of soda (since it's easier than opening the fridge!). I realized after dinner that I was yet to consume my first soda of the day. I really hope that this sticks. I'll get healthier that way!

Nice!
Soda is a big one for some people. I know several people who lose a lot of weight when the only change is - soda.
For us we just don't buy/keep soda in the house. We haven't for as long as I can remember. I find it much easier to say no at the grocery store vs saying no when its on a shelf at home (soda, chips, you name it)
*I still drink soda but if I'm going to waste the calories on it its going to be from the fountain.

Actually I only drink diet soda. I prefer to eat my calories. A no fat latte with splenda is about the only drink I'll have with calories (OK, a few times a year I'll have a milkshake).
Yesterday was a pretty good day, too. I ate only at home. I did have a good amount of caramel with apples yesterday. But I turned down the candy aisle at Target. I'm so proud.
Today is going equally well. I had some WW recipe lasagne and a potato. For dinner I'm going to make a pork loin. I think that we will probably go for a walk tonight, too.
Tomorrow will be a challenge but I think that I can make it.

I skipped walking yesterday but went out today. The goal is 45 minutes of walking or strength training 6 times a week. I have been doing that most weeks since sometime in April. Today I walked 50 minutes. I have also started another tightening action on my diet. I have almost completely eliminated meat and refined grains/carbs. I am trying to tighten it up even more. For breakfast this morning I had two hard boiled eggs and fruit. For lunch a salad, whole grain pita and fruit. No meat on the salad. For a snack I had fruit and nuts. For dinner vegetarian lentil soup and some Wasa whole grain crisps. I will have some blueberries before bed as a snack. I have also cut my morning Americano to a half caffeine Americano.
I am working towards even stricter veggie diet and will start on veggie protein shakes for some days. Summer is a good time to do this because of all the fresh fruits and vegetables available. I am sort of hybridizing the Dean Ornish Spectrum guidance and the Blood Sugar Solution guidelines. Pushing towards the lower end of the spectrum (1/2) with the Ornish guidelines for those that are familiar with it.
As of this morning I am down 59.2 pounds from my heaviest. Down about 7 pounds from this past January 2, down about 17 pounds from last May and down 32 pounds from January of 2011. This has happened in bursts and its time for another one.

Had an ok weekend. Went to dinner with my in-laws on Saturday, and ate more than I probably should've, but in my defense, I had a salad and veggies, along with a 6 oz. filet, followed by a decent walk. The bad portion of that was that I had a Caesar salad, and probably half of a potato, and a few bites of a crab cake. Yesterday, I splurged on dinner, and had what used to be a staple of my diet, only to find that my body greatly dislikes fatty food now. :)
Mr. Kipper is hoping to start a new job in a few weeks that won't leave him so exhausted in the evenings, which will mean that walks will be a staple of our evenings.

Good deal. Maybe we can all post in there with a little more frequency to keep some accountability.
I'm still sluggling along. Had a 500 mile bike month (best ever by a ways), got my 2-3 lifts/week in also during august. Tallied it up and it was something dumb like >43 hours of workouts. UGH
I'll weigh in soon but I'm down about 12 pounds since last October. And if the body comp machine is right + a few pounds of muscle. In all honesty if I could do that again 10/12 - 10/13 I'd be pretty stoked.

I'm trying to avoid that happening to me with the possibility of buying a house! That said, after last night's encounter with a mortgage broker, I don't know how possible it will be.
Although, after talking to her on the phone, finding out we can't do the loan program we want, because even though I'm not on the loan or the current house, Mr. Kipper and I are married, and PA is a community property state, I was really upset. I got home from work, and was going to go for chocolate. Instead, I opted to eat dinner, and then, once I'd calmed down, had a few small chocolate covered pretzels. But, I didn't reach for them first, and I waited until I'd calmed down to eat them.

I think Mr. Kipper and I are leaning towards waiting another year to move. We talked it over, and the mortgage payment on the new house, since we'd have to do a different loan program, is far higher than what we'd like. So, we're planning to bank as much money as we possibly can in the next year, to use as an additional down payment.
There's some disappointment, but a lot of less stress on my side of things. :)
I changed my weight tracking day on WW, so I'm hoping that helps.

I'm following WW, and resisted the urge to get ice cream for dessert last night. :)
I'm pondering dropping my points allowance by a few, since following it, I don't seem to be losing, and I'm not dipping too far into my weekly points allowance.
I've logged in most of my food for the week, since I've planned out our dinners and my lunches are leftovers from dinner a day or two before. :) While not exciting, I'm saving money and it beats fast food.
On Saturday, Mr. Kipper and I spent the afternoon at Autumn Day at the local Masonic Village. Various Masonic organizations have tables set up, displaying various projects/marketing materials. They provide free hot dogs, sausage, french fries, fresh veggies, drinks, and ice cream. We walked around the entire display area once, then ate, then walked around again. I avoided the ice cream and fries, so that was a win. :)

I've been craving buffalo chicken tenders for close to a week, and haven't given in to it. Today, I figured I'd go to Subway and get a buffalo chicken salad, in that while grilled, it would be close, and it would be healthier than a bunch of fried chicken tenders. Unfortunately, Subway was out of salad bowls. Rather than get a sandwich, I opted to go to Arby's. I ordered their chicken salad, along with buffalo sauce, and am now having a buffalo chicken salad that combined with my breakfast and planned dinner, still leaves me with 6 points for the day. :D

I keep seeing P90x somewhere (maybe it's here). Do you feel like it's a good work out? Is it something one can do without being athletic already?
Day 3 went well. We went to Panera for lunch and I stayed on plan. I still haven't dipped into my weekly WW point allotment. Tomorrow will be a challenge but I think that I will allow myself a few extra points so that I can have some candy, too.
I've also been cooking every night which has been really nice. No more guilty feeling after I blow it at Chili's/McDonalds/pizza joint. I made a pretty good quiche on Sunday, a curry dish Monday, and a baked ziti with turkey sausage tonight. I've been very pleased with my food the last few days. I've also been downing tons of fruit the last few days. I also have been taking a vitamin daily since Sunday (I stopped taking it in frustration when I still wasn't getting pregnant that is also about the time I started to gain weight again).

I think its a really good set of workouts....very well rounded. I also benefit from the structure of it. After years and years and years of going to the gym its nice to workout in my basement for a bit. (I still do spin/row type stuff in the gym)
Is it something one can do without being athletic already?
Non athletic yes but out of shape no. If you are interested there are a few other programs that will prepare you for P90x (10 minute trainer then power 90)

Looks like I'll end October with just a few minutes under 40 hours of workouts (we are tracking in endomondo for a challenge). Seems like a TON but still several hours short of my total during biking season (bike is such a TIME SUCK).

The plan is to go for a walk at 8AM (after the city's official hours). I'll be able to earn enough points to have 2 fun sized candy bars. It's just one day at a time. Today will take a lot of work.
In the meantime I'm just snacking on fruit. I hope that posting that here will make me stick to the plan.

I didn't do too badly! I had 1 serving of fun sized snickers, 1 serving of milky way, and 1 serving of 3 musketeers. That was more than I wanted to have but I didn't consume an entire bag (or 3) like in previous years. We walked for an hour after the kids had all gone home. So I'm only 9 points into my weekly extra points (49 total). My day starts on Sunday so I've only 3 days left in my "week".
Tomorrow I head to the hotel. I usually do an hour on the elliptical and sometime my Weight Watchers leader and I walk after work. So if I can do those two things I just might be able to have a cookie at check-in. I'm saving all my weekly points so that I can have pizza with my husband on Saturday. I know I can do this! I just have to keep telling myself....

^ Yay!!! Welcome back to WW.
Does this mean you're going to serve as a kick in the pants for me to fully get back on it as well?
Mr. Kipper is going to do it, although I'm going to end up tracking it for him. Honestly, if he could exercise a little more control as far as not snacking when he can't sleep, he'd lose a lot, very quickly, I'm sure. I've been trying to stay in the program, and for dinners and lunches, he usually eats an extra portion of the main course, so he isn't consuming that much more than what I'm consuming, yet I know he has far more points than I do. I think the problem is that he's the type to raid any snack-type foods when he can't sleep.

I had planned to have a cookie and Goldfish when I got to the hotel tonight. I stopped by Walmart to get Goldfish and ended up with Smartfood popcorn (way more for my point). I also got candy for my calculus students but that will remain unopened in the car.
I checked in to the hotel and when I got to the room they had left me a full sized Milky Way bar ( better than a snickers point wise and tastier than a 3 musketeers bar). While I cleaned the room and reorganized it properly, all I could think about was eating that candy bar. I toyed with the idea of giving it to a top student of the day but who was I kidding it never would have made it until morning....
I decided that I needed it out of the room. So I took it back to the front desk and surrendered it!!!!!! I'm so proud of myself!

Mr. Kipper and I fell off the train yesterday, but I at least will be back on it today. I had to pick him up at work, and noticed there was an accident on the other side of the road that would cause issues when we headed home. So, I suggested a quick and inexpensive dinner nearby. He had any number of chain restaurants and independent restaurants, and I suggested a few. He chose the local cheesesteak place, and his only other suggestion was the local pizza place. As my lunch was not enough to last until dinner, I was starving, and opted not for the chicken or steak salad, hold the fries, but rather, for the cheesesteak... :(

Once she gets there she is starving and so will buy so horrible over priced snack. But there is another Mom (a thin woman) who always carries and apple and a protein bar in her purse. My WE friend now carries a protein bar in her purse that will tied her over and has a known point value.
Maybe you could keep a protein bar in the car. We are getting to the time of the year when it will basically be too frozen to eat without a sufficient thaw at a heating vent. So it would likely give you less temptation.

Today was a good day. I mentioned that I bought candy for my students. It stayed in the car all night. When I got to the office I dumped it all in my goodie bag and hid the bag behind my open door.
I ate two pieces at lunch and was a big time pusher in my afternoon class. I managed to get rid of all but two prices (which I took home to my husband). All told I had about 9 points of candies and snacks. That is a huge improvement over the entire bags I'd have eaten before.
I had a quick dinner before a church function tonight and then got a classic salad with Thai dressing and a slice of rye at Panera afterwards. I still have 36 weekly points left for pizza tomorrow. Sunday starts a new week. So I think I'm in the clear for the week!

Today went well. I finished out the day with 10 weekly points left (we went to the pizza buffet for lunch). Tomorrow starts a new week. I've got a new recipe on the menu. I'm hoping it will be good.

I had an odd weekend in many ways, so I'm not sure where I should be.
I skipped meals, at cake, ate less at some meals, etc.
Today, I had a responsible breakfast, and I'm planning a responsible lunch and dinner. :)

So, every time I visit FT and click on this forum, I have to be sure I log into WW and update my food consumed for the day. :)
I failed to receive the memo that it was apparently "Bring Unhealthy Food to Work Day," as one person brought sugar cookies (Pillsbury, ate 4 small ones), another brought 2 different types of dark chocolate (bacon and strawberry and champagne), someone else brought 2 apple pies, another brought strawberry cheesecake!
The good news is that the apple pies and cheesecake are on another floor, so I can avoid those pretty easily.
The sugar cookies were on a desk near where I walk routinely, and I'm hoping by now, the dark chocolate has disappeared.

:) Thanks. I managed to get through the rest of the day without eating any of the junk food.
We have a chocolate chip cheesecake in the fridge in the basement, but I've avoided eating it because I've refused to go and get it thus far. :)
A friend is stopping by tomorrow to pick up most of the cheesecake, so while I'll probably have a small piece of it when she gets here, at least it'll be out of the house! :)

Bolding mine. This is what we call a "non-scale victory" at WW. You ate 4 small cookies when you might have had so much more. Great job, Kipper!!!

Day 8 back on WW.
Sunday wasn't a bad day. I did end up using 4 of my weekly points. But it could have been so much worse. This was the first weekend after my husband's actuarial exam (he's been studying since May and it destroys all weekend fun). We went antiquing after church and I started to get hungry. We ended up a Target looking for a bath mirror and I was gravitating toward the Halloween candy. We decided to go home and make dinner. I made Cashew Chicken which was wonderful (it's on eTools if anyone is looking for a tasty meal).
Today has gone well. I still have 2 daily points left and think that I will spend them on a banana chocolate WW smoothie. Or some fat-free cool whip. I'd like to spend some time on the elliptical but I have a bunch of work to finish tonight. :(

For those on WW have you had their ice cream fudge bars? I've never done weight watchers but I do keep these in the house for that chocolate crave
I'm not a big fan of the fudge bars since I can taste the wooden stick (it's like fingernails on the chalk board to me). But I do really like the non-sticked ice cream treats. Their version of the snicker's ice cream bar is so good. I usually get in trouble when those are in the house.

Thanks. I didn't think about that, but yes, the non-scale victory is a good way of looking at it. I could've spent the day grazing on all sorts of bad things at work, but didn't. :)

This morning, I indulged a bit, and had a bigger breakfast than normal, in part because I know what I'm having for lunch, and how far away lunch will end up being today. I figure that if I give myself more of a foundation this morning, I'm less likely to cheat closer to lunch.
Chocolate chip cheesecake will be banished today. I'm thankful that Mr. Kipper doesn't care for cheesecake, so it makes it much easier to cut a very small piece for both of us, and pass along the rest to a friend. :)

I decided to join a health club again, especially as we go into the winter months, as I didn't do as much over the summer w/ the heat wave/drought that I thought I would.
I can't afford the health club I'd really like to join because bizness is down significantly this year. There is an aquatic community center 1/2 mile from my house which also has a fitness room w/ the basics (treadmill, bikes, weight machine, etc) & Olympic size pool. I checked out a few other places that were 24/7, but a few of them aren't really staffed so there could be times when you're there by yourself & that's not exactly motivating.
The aquatic place isn't as expensive as the other places I checked out & it's got a promo going right now. So am going to sign up for 3-months. If I like it I can renew for a year still w/ discount. If not, then the expensive health club I really like might have a January/start your year off right special.
I also bought a bunch of healthy food to start eating/get back on track.
Cheers. Sharon

Day 9 back on plan.
Today was a good day. I got up at late and started to get ready to do my daily chores. I nuked the Baked Ziti with Turkey Sausage (on eTools for WW people, I added more veggies so it would have a greater volume and, therefore, more filling). While it was in the mircowave I got a call from my friend (the unsupportive one with the baby) asking if I wanted to hang out. I said I would but I needed to eat first and then I'd head to her place. We spent about 3 hours together shopping and running errands. I held the baby most of the time we were in stores (activity points!).
Then I got home and did some of my work. I was going to have some Subway with my husband at the airport but I wasn't really hungry so we just got him a sub for the plane.
When I got home I had more ziti and finished my work. I had my chocolate banana WW shake and some more toast. Then I went to the basement and spend some time on the elliptical. My new strategy is to go as fast as I can as long as I can. I think that this earns me more activity points.
After I took at the trash I put in my activity. I found out that I had 1 daily point left and I had earned back all the weekly points I had used since Sunday! As a bonus I still have one activity point left to use. The best part is I'm really full right now!!

Day 10 back on plan.
Today wasn't a glowing day but it wasn't bad. I'm currently sitting in my hotel room eating Goldfish (which I tracked!) and it's going to cost me 3 weekly points (I still had some daily points and activity points earned to use). Not to bad.
I hoping that I can stick to it. Things are getting a little stressful today. My husband was offered a job. We will likely take the offer since it's a big raise for him and has great benefits. This means that I have to decide when to resign. Being in academia, I can only reasonably leave between semesters. Of course, now I'm worried about bad karma if I leave before year end. But I also know that I don't want to be thousands of miles away from my husband for a 5th year. Plus my WW leader, with whom I walk and discuss life, is out of town this week. So I feel like I will have no trusted soul around tomorrow who can pull me back from the snacking brink. This is a good problem to have but I know that it jeopardizes my progress.

That's great news that he was offered a job! Care to share a general geographic location?
While you can only leave between semesters, what about talking to your department chair or dean and explaining the situation, and stating that so as not to leave them scrambling to fill your classes, you're willing to stay through end of spring semester? You may find that they'll say they appreciate the offer, but will get someone else, or they will appreciate your devotion. :)
I know being away is rough, but at least with this, there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel!

Yesterday was not a good day for me. My friend who picked up the cheesecake insisted that I take a large piece, even though I kept insisting I only wanted a small piece. Really, how I ever thought I could handle even a small piece, I don't know. I should've just sent it with her, told her to freeze it, and serve it as desesrt during one of our couples nights. At least then, a small piece would've been acceptable. :)
Mr. Kipper comes home tonight, and I have dinner already planned and budgeted for in my points for the day. :)

I've actually been very upfront with my chair. I told him back in April when my husband started getting nibbles. He's been very nice about. When I had a bad evaluation last fall he told me that I could leave between semesters. (Kind of weird conversation). I let him know today that he could make quite inquiries about getting my classes covered for next semester.
Yesterday he was in TX interviewing for another position. His recruiter called them and told them he had on offer. He didn't really think that the position was a great fit. They apparently really want him because they wanted to match his offer and they would create a position to fit his requirements. I'm kind of feeling guilty about that. Seems like a big thing for a company to do.
Things are falling into place.

Today was OK for me. There were no Goldfish at the hotel's manager's reception. So I only had a diet coke. I did go out to dinner with our colloquium speaker and a few of mathies. I had a broiled tillapia sandwich but it had a mayo on it. :( Instead of fries I got a side salad and had the tiniest bit of fat-free dressing. I haven't tracked it yet but I think I'm OK on points.

Mr. Kipper is headed out for a mini-Brokeback Mountain weekend (that's a joke) tomorrow. Yes, he's home for 2 nights, and then headed back out for a night. I'm being the dutiful wife and not complaining about not spending time with him.
Instead, I've planned a girls' night event with friends tonight, a rescue transport tomorrow evening, and a girls' shopping/spa day on Sunday. It helps that the Steelers play on Monday night, so I won't have to worry about being home in time to watch the game. :) It also helps that the ladies I'll be with on Sunday will keep me pretty straight and narrow on points. :)
I'll clarify the Brokeback Mountain weekend comment... My FIL, Mr. Kipper, and most of my FIL's male friends are members at a sportmen's club. At least once a year, they'll do a guys' weekend at the club, where they'll camp out, drink, and legally kill stuff (fresh fish from a pond, small game, etc.). When the movie Brokeback Mountain was released, my MIL coined their weekend a Brokeback Mountain weekend, just because they leave the wives at home. :)
Mr. Kipper is headed to the sportmen's club tomorrow to camp out and use the long-range rifle range (600 yards) with a buddy of his. I'm jokingly calling it a mini Brokeback Mountain weekend, in part because it'll fluster the buddy. :)

I'm glad you explained that Brokeback weekend. For a minute I was a little worried for you. ;)
The plot has thickened. Yesterday the HR guy from the TX company called and basically asked us to name our price. That, of course, really freaked us out. The benefits are like night and day so it's hard to place a value on them. But in spite of the added stress and anxiety I still had a good two days.
I was so busy Friday that I only had a few points before dinner. We were headed to a housewarming party where there would be tons of food so I made eggs and toast before I left. I had 15 daily points left over but I'm not sure I even at those. I had only 3 or 4 little dessert things and a big glass of Diet Coke. We left the party early (we don't have a whole lot in common with my husband's coworkers, another reason we'd like to leave) and walked the mall until it closed and then walked Walmart for another 30 minutes or so.
Today we walked to the pizza buffet and walked back. Then we ran some errands and walked the mall for another hour or so. All told I earned 9 activity points today! It's the last day of my WW week and I have over 40 weekly points left!!
And I forgot to report Thursday that I had lost a pound since my last weigh in. I feel like it should have been more. I totally pigged out on salty Goldfish Wednesday night which likely caused me to retain more water than I normally do. But maybe next week I'll see more loss than I might have.

Day 15 back on plan.
Today was an OK day. We've decided to move to Florida which is a good thing since we bought our apartment hunting tickets last Thursday. We've been doing lots to the house to get ready to sell it. We invited our Realtor over to talk about listing the house and on our way home from church I decided that we needed to get the cats out of the house. So instead of doing work on the house we had to call the airline to add the cats and look for soft-sided approved carriers for them. We ended up eating at Subway instead of at home. :(
My parents have agreed to take the boys temporarily but while I was cooking dinner it hit me just how much I'm going to miss them. I know that it is so much safer for them to take a 2.5 hour direct flight than to endure a cross country move. But since I decided to stay at my university until May I know that I'm going to be in this big empty house without my husband or my cats for 6 months. If the house does sell quickly then I'm going to have move to an apartment near school (a relief really considering I live 90 miles from work) all by myself.
I'm kind of tearing up about it. And all I want right now is a big huge bag of peanut butter M&Ms or some of those winter Oreos. Luckily there is too much to do tonight so going out for some isn't an option. But I'm afraid tomorrow will still be ripe for food porn.
But at least I can write about it here. Somehow confessing my successes and my fears daily makes it a little easier to avoid those bad foods.

:) Brokeback weekend was interesting... Mr. Kipper's friend arrived 20 minutes early, with coffee for Mr. Kipper, and nothing for me. :( I gently informed him that in the future, he needs to bring coffee for me too. :)
I spent most of Saturday sleeping, as I'm fighting the flu or a sinus thing. I can't be too sure of which, because it was a struggle to keep Saturday's dinner down.
I've decided that my friends are a bad influence on me in regards to food. I've gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks, and because, during the week, I do really well with points and watching what I'm eating, I think it has to be from these girls' weekends.

I did really well today until I went grocery shopping. I made it through 2 stores but I bought some food porn at Target. The good news is that my husband eat more than 50% of the Peppermint Oreos. I only had 8 which was 15 points! :td:
I need to work out tomorrow to earn some of those points back. I'll also be doing some work in the bathroom to get it ready for the sale. Maybe I can get some activity points that way. We've been working pretty hard the last few days on little touch up jobs. Next it is packing. That's heavy lifting, right?

I'm still feeling lousy, so I'm on hold with the doctor's office as I type this. I now have an appointment at 10 AM, so I'm hoping they'll treat a sinus infection if that's what it is.
We do a little bit of walking on the weekends, but not much. I just need to suggest more reasonable options for breakfast and lunch, rather than those that we've been frequenting. Sunday's day out was really tough, as my knees were really bothering me, so I really didn't want to walk. I did find Muscle Relief Balm (http://paisleyandcompany.com/shop_online/4butters.html) that has helped a bit with my good knee at least. :)

We've been working pretty hard the last few days on little touch up jobs. Next it is packing. That's heavy lifting, right?
The good news is that you only had 8!
LOL, yes, I'd call packing and moving boxes heavy lifting!
Have you considered what you'll do once you move to where your DH is?

Most b-fast places will try to accommodate your needs, if you ask nicely. Usually you can get egg beaters and have them use cooking spray rather than oil/butter. One thing that helps me is that I pick out what I'm going to have before I get there. I figure out the points and pre-track it. Most of the time that keeps me on plan. Well, at least I have a better chance of staying on plan that way.

I'm not sure what I am going to do. There are a few universities in the area where I could probably adjunct. I doubt I'd be a good candidate for a full time job, if one ever becomes available, at one of those since my research program is in the tank (the reason I won't get tenure where I am). Florida has turned most (all?) of it's community colleges into 4 year state colleges which offer 2 year degrees. The one at Jacksonville has a few full time openings. I qualify for one of those positions, sort of. But it's probably a long shot and frankly the teaching load there seems worse than my high school teachers had. Of course, it could be that lots of people are teaching overloads for extra money. But I don't want to count on it.
If I hit goal by May, which I should, I think that I'll apply at WW. I think that I need to pull myself out of academia. I just can't see myself anywhere else. We were really hoping that we'd have a child by now and that I would stay at home with our child for a few years. My husband is fine with me not working. I just don't know how long I can stay home without getting bored. I'm just going to have to find things to do.

Where Mr. Kipper and I do breakfast on Sundays, they'll use egg beaters for me. :)
The girls weekends have been doing a shopping tour of local counties, and we've tried to make it a point to stop at small, non-chain locations for food. :)

Day 18 back on track.
I think that I would be a very thin person if I were always busy. Today I've been spending a lot of time doing work. I did a few loads on laundry, packed for tomorrow, voted for TB (good luck, Kipper!), made an appointment with the vet, cooked dinner, dealt with the batsh-- crazy university stuff, baked this Sunday's communion bread, and freaked out a little about moving my husband and staying here without him.
I have 8 daily points left over. I'm thinking that I can shift some of those oreos from yesterday to today and save myself some of the weekly points. I ate the last bunch late-ish last night. That's not cheating, right? :D

Yes. The family vet! The vet that has taken care of our family pets for decades.
Today was a less than stellar day. I went out to dinner with a colleague. She's new and her husband is gone the same nights that I am in town. We had a total blast. But I ate food that I shouldn't have. I had a huge pasta dish. The only thing that I did right was that it wasn't an alfredo dish or the adult mac-n-cheese. I did track it as best I could. I had been very judicious with my food earlier in the day so it wasn't bad all around.
It was really nice to hang out with a woman for a change. I do have my less than supportive friend at home but it's been really hard to establish relationships while I've been straddling two cities. This colleague and I have a lot in common so it was so easy to hang out. It's not really like that with my home friend -- I mean we get along just fine we just have very different life philosophies. Math woman night will be a weekly thing now. So I really hope that I can keep myself on track food-wise.

Are you open and honest with her about your WW diet plan/goals?
I've found that most people are very supportive if they only know about it (and those who aren't should be dropped ASAP).
While I don't diet...everyone in my circle knows about my workout routine and the time suck that it is. They are very accomidating when they schedule things to consider it first.

Yes. She's actually in WW with me. She did a better job than I did tonight. I'd really like to come up with some non food ideas for our nights. I did some research last night and came up empty. There were some good museum options but they all close at 5. Dinner is nice because we can chat. I'd really like an activity that is conducive to conversation and food porn free.i don't drink so bars ate probably out.

I've managed to lose 1.2 pounds of what I've gained back during the girls' weekends, although it probably helps that the antibiotics for said sinus infection are making my stomach rather queasy, so I'm not eating that much. I guess there are benefits to being sick. :D
I'm getting 10 inches of hair chopped off tonight for a donation to Locks of Love. If I weigh less from that, does that still count as weight loss? :D

I like the coffee shop, games, and walking ideas. It gets dark here before we finish for the day so maybe mall walking could work,
Day 20 back on plan. I lost 2 pounds this week. I'm think I'm finally over the hump. I've not been ravenous like I was three weeks ago. I'm starting the day with a 6 point breakfast and having a 2 point lunch (lots of fruits) and having a decent dinner. Tonight my husband made dinner while I drove home. I got about 2/3s of the way thought it before getting full. I still have 3 daily points left and honestly I couldn't eat a thing.
Yesterday was equally good food wise. I got to have an entire can of far free Pringles. The good news is they just aren't as good as I remember them being. I also ran on the treadmill yesterday. I ran for about 7 minutes total (out of 47 minutes). I'm pretty pleased with myself.
I'm going to work very hard this week to maintain the weight loss. This was week was my 3 year anniversary with WW. I lost 44 pounds but gained roughly half of it back. But I'm still 22 pounds lighter than I had been. The 5 pounds I've lost over the last 3 weeks has made a difference. My pants feel a little bit looser. I'm going to get rid of the weight I gained back. I have to I'll be living at the beach this summer.

I had a rough week. It didn't start that way, however.
I went apartment hunting in JAX Monday and Tuesday. Monday lunch went well. Mom and I ate off of the under 590 calorie menu at Cheesecake factory. We didn't have cheesecake. But then we met my college roommate for dinner at Olive Garden. I had fettuccine alfredo. :( The next day we did Cheesecake Factory again and ate the same salads but then we split a slice of cheesecake. That night I went to Chick-Fil-A with Dad (I only had the 3 piece chicken tenders). It was all down hill from there. Mom had Cracker Barrel cater Thanksgiving. I did my best but how good can you do with country style cooking? My only redeeming act was having sugar free instant pudding for dessert since I detest Pecan Pie, which is what Mom ordered.
Friday we had BBQ for lunch and Chinese for dinner. Saturday, my birthday, my husband and I headed home. I ate on the plane and had a decent lunch (eating my kitty-less sorrows away). Then Mr. It'sHip bought me a tasty cake at The Fresh Market on our way home. I knew that I shouldn't eat it all so I called my unsupportive friend and asked if they'd like to join us for dinner and cake. We met for dinner a a steak place (I ate off of the 500 calorie menu) and then we had cake at our place.
Today was the beginning of me WW week but I had cake for breakfast (at least there is no more cake left^). We ate out of the freezer for lunch but then walked the mall and had Subway for dinner followed by Cinnamon sugar pretzels for dinner.
I really need to get back on track tomorrow. I haven't exercised at all lately. So little so that Wednesday I had to take some Alieve for my arthritis -- I was hurting so badly that I was almost in tears at dinner. My parents took me to walk the mall after dinner but I just couldn't go far enough or fast enough.
My goals for this week are:
1) Get some exercise daily. Even if that just means I'm doing work around the house.
2) Track my points online.
3) Cook my meals.
4) Get to the grocery store and stock up on good food as there isn't much in the house since we were away.

Horrible weekend, between Thanksgiving, travel to/from home to PIT, and eating when we weren't waiting in lines for shopping. Breakfast yesterday was about the only healthy thing I consumed since Wednesday, which was an egg white veggie frittata.
The good news is breakfast today is a bowl of Cheerios and a small thing of yogurt, before heading out into the woods for a nice walk with a rifle.

How did you and the rifle get on? Nice walk? ;)
Not sure I'd be down with the killing an animal part but a nice, armed walk in the woods would be quite nice. Perhaps I can consider doing that when I get to JAX.
Today was a rough day. We ended up at the pizza buffet for dinner. Usually we get to order a pizza or two for the buffet. Service was a little slow so they just sent us home with our pizza. Nice but not nice since I've got half of a large pizza in my fridge. I'd like to say I won't eat it but I've been living with me my whole life -- I know how it's going down.
My husband handed in his letter of resignation today. People were shocked. Apparently they thought he'd never leave since I am tenure-track. I'll hand in my letter Wednesday. It's kind of freeing. I'm actually looking forward to having no responsibilities. Academia was getting to me.
This evening I called my best math friends to let them know what was going to happen. One of them, the chair of her division, made a comment about never having to deal with student complaints again and that she'd had her fill today alone. It hit me that this is exactly why I'm leaving. "Professing" sounds like a really cushy job. In some ways, it is. But in a very small way you are holding the future of a student in your hands. This time of the semester is really hard because all the students who have been "checked out" for the last few weeks (not turning in HW, failing quizzes, not coming to class) suddenly find God. They come to my office and ask about their grades. Usually they start with a "I really need a 'B', can I get a 'B'?" or "I missed that quiz can I make it up?" There's nothing I can say to sugar coat the fact that most of these students are sunk by now. I feel like a monster and they feel like I've screwed them. But I have to abide by the syllabus. It is a contract and I can't show favoritism. Students are quick to assume that I have the power to "give" them a grade or a leniency. But I don't. My job is to act with integrity and report my findings via a letter grade. This letter grade might keep Johnny out of medical school or contribute to Debbie's Scholarship non-renewal. And Johnny and Debbie won't let you forget it. (Neither will Debbie's mom who will email me a nasty note at the end of every semester until Debbie finally graduates with a 2.001 GPA).
I first started to put on weight my second term of grad school. This is when I started to have these sorts of student issues. I wonder if I've been eating my conflicted feelings about what is right and what is nice. At least this time next year I won't have a guilt ridden conscience over whether or not I just happened to ask the 10 questions Kathy didn't know how to answer perfectly (or so she says). I won't have can-I-still-pass emails from that kid I haven't seen since week 2. And I won't have to work in my office with the lights off to avoid that book rep who has been stalking the department admin assistant and me.
It's interesting that after 10 years I finally see where some of my issues originate. I was raised to be an emotional eater and I've put myself in a job that is very emotionally challenging. I never thought of my job that way but when I talk about it I only ever talk about the emotionally upsetting stuff and so does everyone else with whom I talk. It's like we go from office to office trying to absolve ourselves.

Not sure I'd be down with the killing an animal part but a nice, armed walk in the woods would be quite nice. Perhaps I can consider doing that when I get to JAX.
The walk was nice. We walked in about a half mile, all uphill, hiking, over uneven terrain, including walking on stone, leaves, etc., so we had to pick our way over the terrain.
The walk out was far easier, since it was downhill. For both parts, I carried a rifle that weighed about 10 pounds, so I guess I get credit for hiking with weights? :D
We saw 5 people, 0 deer. It's rather tough to shoot a deer when you don't see anyone. If people were in season, I'd have easily bagged my limit yesterday. :D
My knees held up pretty well, although they are sore today, but that could be in part from the snow we're getting now.
Mr. Kipper is out in the woods now with a friend. Last night was rough for me, because Mr. Kipper is out with a friend, and they left yesterday around 4 PM.
This friend invited himself along for yesterday and today, when it was supposed to be just Mr. Kipper and me. Mr. Kipper told him that yesterday was just us, so the friend stayed away until the afternoon. I'd told Mr. Kipper to go with him today, since really, I had the work to justify coming into work, and quite frankly, this friend doesn't scream responsible hunter, so I didn't want to deal with him.
However, I'm annoyed that the friend invited himself along for the first two days, without any consideration for our plans, and that he tends to not think of me in doing anything. Another example is that when they were headed out for their Brokeback weekend, he picked up coffee for Mr. Kipper that morning, before he came to our house, but didn't bring any for me. When he invited Mr. Kipper to go hunting at his uncle's cabin, he invited Mr. Kipper, not me, even though he knows I'm into hunting, and that Mr. Kipper and I had plans to go hunting.
A few weeks ago, I pointed out that he didn't invite me hunting, and he then said I could go with them.
So, last night, the friend asked me why I wasn't going hunting with them today, and I told him that I was angry about the fact that he invited himself along on our plans, and that in trying to encourage Mr. Kipper to have guy friends, I opted to let him cancel our plans, so he could go, but because of that, I wasn't going today.
Of course, then I felt conflicted, because I don't want him to get the idea I don't want Mr. Kipper to have guy friends, but rather, I want him to realize that sometimes, Mr. Kipper has existing plans, and he needs to not invite himself on those, at least when they involve me.
I went out to dinner with a friend, and she'd had a rough day, so we both had a drink while we were out, and split an app, in addition to our entrees. The good news of that is that I only ate half of my entree (the rest is lunch today), and we avoided dessert.

I'd guess you'll have a greater sense of freedom after Wednesday!
I can see how it would be so emotionally challenging and upsetting, so perhaps you'll also see an improvement in following WW and such! :)

I've been a bad girl since Thanksgiving. I guess that I really need good internet access to stay on track. But I'm back. I've gained some weight. :( But I've decided to be back on track.
I'm skipping the department lunch tomorrow to pack. I'm going to have my husband pick up Subway for dinner on his way home. There isn't a whole lot of packing left to do. I think that this move will be a lot less stressful than the last few (I hope). I think that it also helps that we have a pile of stuff to be gotten rid of.

I didn't do too badly today in comparison to the last two weeks. I've been sick (a lovely parting gift at final exam week) and haven't gotten any exercise. My husband has been bringing home take-out the last few nights. Last night it was Subway. I did have an entire bag of light potato chips and a Medium bag of peanut butter M&Ms in my convalescence. But three days later and I've only had a few of my husband's Hershey's kisses.
Today I had two WW's frozen english muffin sandwiches, some sliced apples, a bowl of chips (cereal bowl), and a walmart chef's salad (with a few tbsps of ranch dressing). I don't know what we are doing for dinner but my husband should be home soon. Things are getting a little better. I hope that I'll be back on track soon but the move will be tough.

Yesterday I changed everything.
For months I've been restricting calories (an average of 1400/day) and not only have I not lost any weight, I've been exhausted, I haven't had the energy to work out, and I've been unpleasantly obsessed with food, approaching orthorexia.
So I've decided to change tack. More food, more weightlifting, more workouts. We'll see how that goes.

I managed to weather the holidays rather well. I switched to a new scale, as my old one is about 10 years old, and have managed to lose almost 2 pounds throughout the past two weeks. Considering the holidays, I'd say that's pretty good. :)
I'm tracking my points full-force, and to celebrate a coworker's birthday, rather than bring in donuts or bagels, I picked up fruit. It helps that she has to do gluten-free, so I figured fruit was safe. :)

I ate like crap all through the holidays. Scale stayed the same. However, tummy didn't. That's probably the wine.
I intended to get a lot of walking in during the week between Xmas & NY - but I screwed up my knee (not exercise related), and I've been limping for a few days like a 90-year-old bag lady (no offense to bag ladies).
I did buy some healthier food & I'm hoping the knee will be better by the beginning of next week.

I had no idea how routine dependent my healthy life journey is. We packed up the moving truck on the 16th and have been wanderers since. As we were packing it become harder to cook at home. I knew that the road to FL would be tough but once we got to my parents' it was hard to keep on track. My mom has a new favorite neighborhood bakery that she is trying to keep in business.
Our furniture was delivered last week but we only started living in the new apartment on the 31st (when the cats joined us). I have no idea how much weight I have gained since I haven't been to weight watchers since school let out.
I have cooked dinner twice, though. And I'm cooking dinner again tonight. That's the only success I can muster this week. Argh!.

After a decent weekend, I'm down another 0.4 pounds. :) Sunday's breakfast still had me full at 7 PM, to the point htat I seriously pondered skipping dinner.
Total lost on WW is 13.4 lbs.
We're having dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings tonight, and I've plotted out my meal--a Chicken Caesar Salad. This leaves me with more than enough points for lunch today, even though I don't know what lunch will be yet. :)
I tried something different for breakfast this morning. Typically, breakfast is a McDonald's Egg McMuffin. While it fits into my daily points, I know it's not the healthiest option. Likewise, since Mr. Kipper and I are on a quest to save money this year, spending $2.50/weekday for breakfast isn't helping that. :)
So, when we did our grocery shopping yesterday, I picked up english muffins, fat-free cheddar cheese, canadian bacon, and egg whites. I save 3 points/day by making my own egg mcmuffin at home, plus I save $2.50/day.
I didn't eat all of the sandwich this morning, and even though I ate 4 hours ago, I'm starting to feel hungry. That said, lunch is going to be something responsible. :)

Big thumbs up for cooking breakfast at home! I'm not traveling much these days so its easier to eat at home for me.

Without cheese, you save 2 points. My concern with the egg mcmuffin is the cholesterol in the egg, hence the egg white.
It took a bit of extra time this morning to cook breakfast at home, rather than simply swing through the drive-thru, but the cost and points savings will be worth it. :)
In the mornings, I'd only get coffee, so no points there, since I drink it black.

I'm down 14 pounds on WW. I opted for naked chicken tenders, with a dry rub, rather than sauce, for dinner last night. :) I figured that the dry rub was probably more salt than anything else, while a sauce would be more sugar.

It was very tasty, although I probably could've used the extra protein, as I was a bit hungry before lunchtime.
I did, for the most part, stick to the program. I didn't have as much for dinner as I thought I would, although I did splurge on the way home for a small ice cream cone from Dairy Queen. For WW, you have daily points and weekly points. Daily points must be used that day, or you lose them. Weekly points can be used any time during your week, i.e., from the day you enter your weight, for a week. If I enter my weight on Friday, I have weekly points for Friday-Thursday. If I don't use the weekly points, I lose them. Not a big deal, and the goal for me is to not use most of my weekly points.

Had my version of an egg mcmuffin for breakfast this morning. I discovered that I probably don't need to add the cheese to the egg while the egg is in the frying pan. It melts too much and creates a mess. :)
I packed a large thing of fruit and a cup of yogurt for a snack. Lunch is up in the air, while dinner has already been entered into my tracker. :)
I'm leaning towards Panera Bread for lunch, assuming I can either shave off 3 ponts from something, or shave 3 points from dinner tonight.

NICE!!
How often do you weigh?
Almost every day. :) I do this because:
Seeing the number drop, even by 0.1 is some sort of incentive and motivation
It lets me know if what I've been doing has been working or not
I realize that it's not a marker of the day before necessarily, but it helps to know that what I've been doing for the days/week prior to is helping. I always weigh myself at the same spot in the bathroom, and it's always before I shower, and before I eat breakfast.
Knowing that I'll have to weigh myself the next day is part of what is keeping me in line. Tonight, we're getting together with another couple to exchange Christmas presents. We're planning to order pizza. Knowing that I'm going to get on the scale tomorrow morning means that my pizza will be hand-tossed or thin crust, heavy on veggies, light on meat, cheese, and sauce. I'll also only eat two slices or so, filling up on salad and such prior to dinner. If I didn't intend on weighing myself tomorrow, I'd be more likely to splurge on a pizza heavy on cheese and pepperoni.
Yes, I know that what I eat tomorrow won't necessarily be reflected in tomorrow's scale reading, but emotionally, I feel like it is, so it's keeping me in line. :)

Good deal. I don't think there is any "right" answer to how often/when/why....just always interesting to see what others are doing.
The little successes on the way down are for sure motivating.
I do see some people who get really deflated if it goes the other way (almost to the point of giving up). For me personally I don't put much stock into weigh-ins. I try to go by fitness (how much I'm lifting, how fast I'm riding/rowing, etc). Its much more vague.

I had soup for lunch, but, by 4 PM, I was hungry. We weren't scheduled to pick up the pizza until 6, and we had very little real food in the house. So, I had 2 coffee creme sticks. I refused to allow myself to eat more than that.
When we had dinner, I ate less than my budgeted amount of pizza, but ate 1 honey BBQ wing. Rather than eat more pizza, I ate an orange. Not the best day in regards to avoiding junk food, but then again, it was a bit of a win to choose an orange, rather than another slice of pizza. :)

I find that how much I weight doesn't always correlate with how I feel about my body. Sometimes when I know there's more give in my clothes, there is no change on the scale. Yet when my jeans are snug, at times, the scale shows a weight that's lighter. How?!

It was also a rough weekend because on Friday night, on the way home from dinner, I started to feel like I had an ear infection. I refused to do anything about it until today, and yes, I have an ear infection, along with a sinus infection. This explains why I've felt lousy all weekend.

I've found that I keep a few shelf-stable meals in my desk, just in case I don't pack lunch, and I don't have time to run out and get something. It helps me tame the hunger until I can get home and eat a real meal, but saves me from overeating later.

Peroxide is an excellent disinfectant. I have used white vinegar, as I don't have apple cider on hand. Either should be fine. Treat nails too by soaking them in vinegar to prevent fungus or bacteria--especially after using a keyboard on a public computer!
Moisturize w/ coconut oil: not slimey or smelly like olive oil, and microbacterial.^^

Tomorrow, I'm adding a extra rep to my calisthenics and gonna push a bit harder on my jog.

I've posted and read here, but haven't shared my story. So, here goes.
In September 2012 I herniated two disks and ended up in the worst physical pain I've ever experienced. Every step was painful. Even standing up was painful. It took many months of bodywork, chiropractic treatments, prayer and stretching until I could walk normally again.
4 + months later, I can look back and see it as a blessing in disguise. My lifestyle had become way too sedentary in recent years. That coupled with the fact that I am in my 60s meant that I was ignoring my body's needs for way too long.
Since September I am exercising more and doing stretches in my core (hamstrings, hips, lower back) at least once a day. Many days I do stretches twice. I've joined a fitness center with a pool as when I couldn't walk, I could swim.
On December 10 I realized that I also need to lose weight. I'm 6'2 and I weighed 215 that day. My weight has generally been between 210 and 220 in recent years, though I did hit 228 last year. I immediately stopped eating all baked goods - bread, rolls, cookies, cakes, etc. I can't say those cravings have totally gone away, but they are diminishing. :)
My goal is for my weight to be around 195 by my birthday in April. This morning I weighed 204, so I am making good progress. (I can't remember the last time I weighed this little - probably more than a decade) I gave myself a boost by fasting this past Friday and Saturday. When I went dancing on Sunday morning, I felt great! ^
I have found that travel can help me with my goal. Recently I've driven down to the SC beach where I am more inspired to walk long distances. Also, on my travels (by car recently) I purposely didn't pack any less than healthy snacks. So, if I wanted to break my diet, I would have to go out and buy them.
In February I am off to Hawaii for a month (yes, I'm retired), and I fully expect that a month of lots of outdoor activity and lots of fresh produce from Hawaii's wonderful farmer's markets will help me be much healthier.
As for what steps did I take today - today I was in my garden, bending and pulling out dead plant material and my back was flexible and strong enough to get the jobs done with no pain. ^ ^ ^

I'm less than 2 weeks out from the rowing competition. I pulled another sub 7 2000 meter so it wasn't a total fluke ;).
As long as I don't blow up taking it out too fast that 6:55ish is reasonable. I think there is a very small outside shot at sub 6:50. We will see :)

Today I took a boot camp at my gym, and while I was dripping sweat into my eyes within the first five minutes, it was pretty easy otherwise. I couldn't do squats on the Bosu because my knees were shaking, and I couldn't go from plank to push-up position so I just held planks for those portions, but I had joked with my friend earlier in the day that if I didn't survive, I had specific funeral instructions, and I was fine at the end.
I've also done spin classes twice already this week. I figure if I do two spin classes a week in my cardio and don't overeat, the weight should actually fall off.

I've still been fighting this sinus/ear thing. I finally called the doctor's office on Monday, since I still hadn't improved much, and they changed the antibiotics. I'm now feeling better, although, I'm being careful not to do too much yet, in part because the antibiotics I'm now on have huge cautions about the potential for tendon damage.

Up tonight--home from work, pick up Geno, take him to the vet, then bring him with me to get a massage, then home for dinner--Dream Dinners Steak Gorgonzola leftovers, plus a box of broccoli and cheese sauce (Green Giant, a box is 4 WW points), before bed. In to work really early tomorrow. Yikes!

:D Yes, crazy day, crazy week, crazy next few weeks! Geno has a UTI, which explains why he's been drinking excessive amounts of water. He's now on two meds--an antibiotic and methionine. He's very wary of peanut butter, so it's always an adventure trying to give him meds. I generally have to pry open his mouth, shove them in, close his mouth, hope he doesn't cheek them, and rub his throat for a while. Neither one of us finds it remotely pleasant.
I was up at 3 AM today, to make sure Mr. Kipper made his 6 AM flight, so tonight is going to be a very early night! I'm already on my second large cup of Starbucks--first one had a shot of espresso. :D

My weight has frozen. Trying to figure out exactly why - or what it is I'm doing wrong. I'm actually exercising more, and more vigorously too, as my body has strengthened, but my weight has frozen - i.e., I lost that initial eight pounds, and haven't been able to lose any more.
This morning, I was tempted to take a free snack from the coffee place (samples, basically, that they put out for customers to try - baked goods like cookies and croissants and stuff), but I resisted. ^ At lunch, on the other hand, I could have discarded the sourdough roll that comes with the soup, but I ended up dipping it and eating it. :( It's not that big, but it's the principle. I've got to think of a way to NOT eat it, without making a fuss.

I dropped all baked goods from my diet two months ago (I was already a long-time vegan), so my diet is quite healthy. And I've been exercising more than I have in years. But to really drop the weight, I've had to fast. I did a two day fast last month and just completed another two day fast this week. Each fast has dropped my weight about 5 pounds.
This afternoon I jogged 1/2 mile. I haven't done that in a decade or two. Much easier to move without that extra weight!!!

It's been a bad week for me... Someone brought in donuts on Monday, and then fasnachts yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of fish, so avoiding meat on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays during Lent has always been a challenge, but I'm hoping that it's really what I need now.
I had less than a serving of oatmeal from McDonald's this morning. They didn't add the maple/sugar flavoring, so it was lousy. I can't decide if lunch today is going to be soup and salad from Panera or a giant salad elsewhere. Dinner tonight is pizza, but it'll be topped with mushrooms, and I know how much I can eat there. :)

I'm 62. Started making lifestyle changes about Sept 2011. I got seriously addicted to exercise during PT for an ACL repair Jan 2012 and lost 25# last year. I was pre-pre-diabetic so I was working on my diet. Everything was going pretty good till the piper arrived carrying a bill for a lifetime of irresponsibility. Fair is fair.
I was working out at the time and my fitness surely helped me survive. It's a long story, I didn't get miles for the helicopter ride but I think there was a TSA agent at the hospital. Over and over people told me I was very lucky. An LAD stent was all I needed. I'm real happy there's no permanent damage. Every morning I wake up, I thank God for a "bonus day". WOO HOO!
Now my goals are to enjoy exercise and eating healthy. Side effects like weight loss, aerobic capacity, lower fat content and increased muscle mass are welcome.
As you might guess, prioritizing is easier.

I'm glad that you listened to your wake up call and are getting healthier while appreciating every day. That's the best!
I'm also 62, and while my wake up call was gentler than yours (mine was very painful, but not life threatening), it has impelled me to take much better care of my body and stop taking it for granted.
Now that I am exercising regularly and losing weight my blood pressure is dropping, too. So, everything is working in harmony for me to be stronger and healthier.

Yes, indeed. And also as we age, it's more difficult to lose as your body's metabolism slows down. Did I mention, I hate getting old. :D
But I found out something interesting recently - if I do my work out right before dinner, I sometimes work off my hunger, too. For example, last night was my 'free' day when I can eat whatever I want - so I thought for dinner, I'd get pizza or pasta or something carb-y like that. But after I was done with my workout, I was just like, yuck, I am NOT HUNGRY. So I made a smoothie instead, which was all I needed. I did later open a can of whole corn, added some butter and nibbled on that.

Yeah. I try to make my workouts a main priority...I schedule work and other activities around it...just too easy to slip for me. I've got most of my friends/family trained to know that they can schedule things with me....AFTER gym time :)
When I first started traveling heavy about 12 years ago (in my early 20's) I was bored so started working out most nights for long durations. I find now in my mid 30s my body can't handle thank many back to back 2+ hour workouts, so I split them up morning/night or noon/night. just makes it easier on the body I find.
I'll post a pic or two of the endomondo monthly workouts when I'm off the corporate VPN and can get there.
You'd look at it, and the intensity that I workout in and think I should be leaner but I'm one of those that has to work a lot to make small progress. Any time off and I pack it on fast and don't stop packing it on. Hell I was doing 5-6 hours of pretty intense workouts/week in the past and I was adding about a pound a month...ugh. I put on 5 pounds during marathon training...etc etc.

Even when I was running 25-35 miles/week + lifting + alt stuff like bike I was ~ 6' and 220#s. Decently lean put probably 10-15 #s from being "ripped".
I'm a bit heavier than that now but trying to get back into the 225-230 range. at -1/month that I've been averaging it will take another year but doable I think. sub 220 is a bit of a stretch to think about...my diet would have to be spot on most of the time read nearly perfect nearly all the time). While its clean currently its not THAT clean.

Looking at my scale, I see that while my weight is fluctuating mildly, on balance I'm losing 1 lb. per week, which is just fine with me. I don't need or want to crash diet. Three months or so and I should be right at my ideal weight.
Also, do you find (like me) that you get hungrier in cold weather months or climates? Now that days are getting longer, I'm finding it easier to lighten my dinner plate and lunches, lol. :)

I'd love 1/week :) 1/month is where I've averaged for a while now (with a big month last month of 3 not included in that average).

Eating less is definitely easier for me in warmer weather. I'm vacationing in Hawaii now, and I have hardly eaten since i got here. Back home when I fasted or skipped a meal, my body would get cold, and I would need to compensate in some other way (turn up the heat, take a hot shower).
Bu the good news is that I am steadily losing weight, feeling better and lots of people are noticing. While renting a car, the guy at the counter noticed the diff between me now and my face in my driver's license photo. That one really surprised (and pleased me).
I'm also learning new exercises to strengthen my core.

Breakfast: 4 slices of whole grain toast with olive oil.
Lunch: Two medium red potatoes, microwaved, shredded, then fried, one slice of bacon, one egg white. Followed by two oranges, one banana.
After one hour 850 calorie workout: Protein shake: 16 oz skim milk, 6 oz non-fat yogurt, whey protein, instant breakfast, banana. This is overkill, I take myself a little too seriously.
Dinner: Very large romaine salad with light ceasars dressing. Well drained fish sticks (12 oz).
Probably snack on some saltines later.

The bad news is that I'm currently in an emotional state where I could drown my sorrows in a pint of ice cream, or use that pint of ice cream and some alcohol to make mudslides to really drown my sorrows. Reason? A multitude, including Mr. Kipper's car needing a new clutch, not being able to find a new car upon which we can agree, and not getting enough sleep, but really, all of that is only a portion.
The big reason:
Found out that I'm not getting a final interview for a job with a nonprofit. I've volunteered with the nonprofit for 6 years, interviewed for a position that seemed well suited for my skills, and was told that they feel I don't have the experience they want, yet I have the knowledge of their programs, which the other candidates do not have.
I really thought this position was what I was supposed to do, where I was supposed to devote my energy, and had been taking more volunteer responsibilities in part to show that I could do the job.
The good news is: I'm at work, it's well beyond lunch time, I'm headed into a meeting in 30 minutes, and I refuse to raid the vending machines for chocolate, because I don't want anyone to see me and think, "Gee, Kipper doesn't care about what she eats."
I am planning on making it to the end of the day, picking up my fundraiser order for Eastern Star, stopping at home to take the kibblers out, squeese in a good, solid cry so I feel better, and to tuck my portion of the order into the freezer, and then head to drop off the rest of it, before picking up Mr. Kipper. We'll have dinner, and then I'm headed to bed. :) I may not be able to solve all of the issues tonight, but I can solve the lack of sleep!
I can also remember that when I get disappointed like this, I get upset, and determined to show them what they are missing. So, this can be good.

I stuck to 2 slices of pizza for lunch today, which while not great, was about the best I could do. I'm exhausted and waiting for Mr. Kipper to pick me up, although he won't be here for another hour. If most of my coworkers had gone home for the day, I'd consider walking around the building several times to get some exercise in and in hopes of staying awake!
As long as you are making reasonable choices from an unoptimal selection, I feel it kind of all balances out. I'm doing well, steady decline in weight, more stamina and strength from my workouts, so tonight I was kind of bad and ate rice and beans, with a bit more rice than I probably should have, but I don't really feel too bad because I've been doing the best I can. In the past I'd have been tempted to sort of expense this indulgence by accounting for today as my weekly 'carb day', but I don't feel that's necessary, since it was ultimately about the rice/bean protein pairing, not so much the rice. And I didn't overdo it today otherwise, in any way.
Anyway, sorry about the job, but glad that you've kept a good perspective on it. :)

One of the things WW is supposed to help you handle is dealing with the unoptimal selections. :) I opted for the cheese pizza, rather than the tuna sub, with cheese, and more mayo. :)
I heard from the CEO again last night, and after telling the board that she needs my skills, and would change the job title to get them, I have my interview!!!

wrapped up another phase of p90 :). Still a challenge...still adding reps/weight it seems. Still a lot of rowing and spin in addition to.
Spin will be winding down as outside bike ramps up (I went for my first outside ride this week....39 degrees and no wind....cold but managable). May try to sneak out today if I catch a break at work.
Lost bit over 3 pounds over the 5 week period. MADCAP!

This morning I weigh 199. This is the first time I have been under 200 in about 20 years. Even more important, I am feeling better and better as I lose weight, exercise more, take better care of my body and enjoy life more. ^ :)
I finally have access to a digital scale (which hopefully is accurate), and my weight is still at 199 this morning. I intend to lose a few more pounds before my birthday next month, but I am very pleased that my weight has stabilized around 200. When I get home from my long Hawaiian sojourn, I will be buying lots of new pants (already got new shorts and bathing suit for this trip) as virtually none of my old ones fit well anymore. I recently bought a pair of 36 inch shorts. For the past twenty years or so I have worn 40 or 42 inch!

Did my workout yesterday, adding a rep to my routine.
I've calculated that I'm losing 1% per week, since I started.
It can be hard, I've also noticed, not to snack when you are bored. I suppose this is part of why it's good to keep busy with hobbies and even social things - they help keep your mind off eating and dieting. In addition, socializing keeps you in contact with peers and others whose fitness can either inspire you, or reinforce your own state of being. :)

Just got back from a nice, long walk around a state park with the kibblers and Mr. Kipper. It's a gorgeous day here, and it felt good to get moving! We walked for almost 90 minutes.

I agree with this. We have a pretty decent size of "regulars" at the gym....just being with this group of people who are always there, trying to eat right, trying to stay fit, etc makes things seem easier.

Just finished an Unjury protein shake made with low-acid orange juice, chased by a 1/2 turkey sammich made with Oroweat thins. Just the shake and the 1/2 sammich leave you feeling full.

So maybe next time, can you skip the OJ and thins? And keep some baby carrots or celery around for snacking, if you get hungry later?

I know I don't drink enough water. Last week, I purchased a new lunch bag, and it came with a 24 oz. water bottle. I received it yesterday, and after washing the water bottle, brought it into work today. Before I did anything at work, I threw some ice cubes in the bottle and filled it with water. It's now sitting on my desk, directly in front of my computer monitor, so I'll have no excuse for not drinking at least 24 oz. of water today!

Better than nothing. How did the 24 go?
I never know how much one should drink...I see estimates all over the board.
I drink a lot of water during the day anyways. I get 1.5-2 20 ounce bottles in just during my AM workout.

I carry water with me everywhere all the time, and have for years. I probably drink more than a gallon of water daily. Of course, everyone's needs are different.

Congratulations on doing well despite the drawbacks of trying to keep in shape on the road. ^
Meanwhile, I'm kind of at another standstill currently. :( Even though I've stepped up my exercise steadily.
I think I may substitute ice cubes for milk in my nightly smoothie. I'm not willing to cut the yogurt content as that is probiotic and nutritious. Milk can be, too, of course, but it's too carb-y and not worth the weight gain, IMO.
Also, I guess I need to account for a bad night recently when I had some beer. I stay away from beer as much as possible, but it can be hard to socialize fully without it.

I struggle with this too. I have a morning shake and use skim milk and ice. I'd like to get away from it but flavor wise not sure I can take just water/ice.

I drank it, but barely.
Today, I filled the water bottle and added one of those Lipton Tea and Honey packets. I downed the 24 oz. in record time, and by 10 AM, filled my water bottle again, then drank all but 4 oz. or so before lunch.
I should probably slice a lemon and add that to my water bottle at home every morning, and just refill it as necessary at work, rather than use those flavorings.

Here's a trick I use in flavor terms - Costco has a big size Vanilla extract bottle - I make a smoothie using 1 banana, two tablespoons of yogurt and about 3 drops of vanilla extract (no more than that, as it can be overpowering) - and then the milk, of course. As the weather warms up, I will likely appreciate the lighter texture of a smoothie using ice in place of milk. I guess I could experiment with some kind of blend of ice/milk, too, so as to reduce the milk content. But then it gets too complicated and kind of silly, IMO.

I tried it with ice - in place of milk - and I actually preferred it that way. :D Lighter consistency, more pure banana flavor, and chilled (from the ice, of course).

I like the cold of the ice also...always use it. I use a powder that needs some sort of liquid.

I mix apple juice and milk when innovation is req'd. Flavored yogurt works. Whey comes in french vanilla.
