US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - award reservation holds

Hi all,

Looked everywhere but couldn't find the answer and didn't feel like being put on hold calling DM -- how long will they let you hold an award reservation before ticketing? Also, anyone have experience with open jaws at origin? I know you can have an open jaw AAA-BBB and return CCC-AAA, but can you do AAA-BBB-CCC?

Normally 30 days, but it appears that in extenuating circumstances they may be flexible. This weekend I called to book a flight using a bump voucher (which I understand to be the same seat bucket as award seats), and as I live in the UK--where their only ticket "office" is at LGW--the extremely helpful agent voluntarily extended the hold until such time (specified in our discussion, but beyond 30 days) prior to departure as I will be in the US at an airport served by US.

The terms are more liberal for RTFC's (bump vouchers) than mileage awards. I believe at one time it was 7 days for awards and 14 or 28 days for RTFCs. This despite them both coming out of the same inventory bucket. As the previous poster notes they have some leeway.

Open jaws are ok at either end as long as they meet the mileage rules. IE, flying A->B then C->A is a valid open jaw as long as the mileage of both is longer than B->C. Same for open jaw at origin.

I'm currently holding a FC award, and the downtown DC CTO gave me 3 weeks to decide to ticket it or not.

Interesting....I have an award on hold from IAD to EZE and I am being given only 3 days on hold before ticketing...

Has anyone had any luck getting U to "open up" seats on UAL metal for awards? I colleague of mine had U call inventory to open up award seats on US metal, but now sure if the same holds true for codeshares....

does anyone know if one can use a US bump voucher for travel on UA? other partners?
