Just saw a used one pop up for low $300s, I was just wondering if anyone has used this lens.
I have consistently found Tokina lenses better than Tamron. Tokina's are extremely well-built both optically and mechanically (I have their 10-17 Fisheye). If I were you, I'd look at their AT-X 116 PRO DX lens – a 11-16 mm f/2.8 marvel. Costs more than the Tamron but depending on your needs, might be worth the extra $$.
