I will be returning from Budapest in May and my flight connects in Helsinki. I arrive on a Thursday at 10pm and my connection is the following day at 2pm.

Does anyone have a recommendation for what I can possibly do or see? Or a decent hotel or hostel?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, lots of stuff to look at there. Looks like it's about a 30 minute ride from the airport to town. I think I should be able to grab a room, go out for a bit, and then see a little in the morning before going back to the airport.

Enjoy! Helsinki is lovely. If your trip is in late May, you'll get to see a decently late sunset and a very early sunrise. You'll still get twilight at 10PM or later.

I would suggest a hotel right in the city center. A lot of my coworkers and I like Glo and there is a new one I haven't tried called Fabian but have heard is quite nice. I don't know your budget though.

I always walk around the city center, go out to the harbor, it's gorgeous, and I stop by a local chocolate shop and grab some gifts. You should have a couple of hours to enjoy the next day before heading to the airport. If you're into architecture, Helsink has a few gems as well. The people are about as nice as they come.

Awesome, thanks for the tips.

I'm thinking about getting a super cheap room at the Stadion Hostel. They have private rooms and I won't be there for very long so might as well save my money for the chocolate and beer!

Another option would be the Eurohostel (www.eurohostel.fi). It costs a little bit more, but it's much closer to the harbor, Kauppatori etc than Stadion hostel. Then again, the Stadion is not too far if you take the tram.

Thanks for the other recommendation. I'll check that one out too.
