US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Need help to define Preferred Miles

I have spent a couple of weeks lurking and reading and am overwhelmed by the volume of useful information here. Thanks to all who post. I have tried a number of searches, but have been unable to locate a complete set of rules for what qualifies as preferred miles. I am quite close to GP and am trying to figure out my last trip for the year and need to make sure I make it!

I know from the official web site that miles under the 500 mile minimum don't count -- they use the actual miles in that case. I also know that other than the 10K miles posted one time from my BoA card, those miles don't count. But I still can't seem to figure it out from my e-statments.

1) Do class of service bonuses count?
2) Do SP/GP/CP status bonuses count?
3) Do the various promotions count?
4) In the event that the answer to #3 is sometimes, which is what it appears to be, how do I determine which bonuses count? Specifically, does the double miles on LH count?

I apologize if this is readily available somewhere, I promise I spent a bunch of time searching! Thanks for your help.

You receive a minimum of 500 preferred miles for each flight. Class of Service bonus counts as preferred miles. Bonus miles for being a CP/GP/SP do not count as preferred miles. Some promotions count as double preferred miles and will be listed as such. Most promotions are just bonus miles. The LH bonus miles are not preferred.

Actually, you get 500 preferred miles for the shorter flights.

Your answers:

1 - Yes, provided you paid for First or Envoy class
2 - No
3 - Depends on what the promotion says. Some do and some don't.
4 - From the promotion small print: Bonus miles do not count toward earning Preferred status or E-Upgrades.

With respect to #1 above, what if you use miles to upgrade? My sister did this and got put in F and got the 50% COS bonus as tier miles. Was this an error on the agents part? I know we don't get the COS bonus anymore if upgrading with CP status or E-upgrades.

I believe it was. I pretty much upgrade for every long flight, using miles when I don't have an alternative. I don't seem to get the bonus, unless I paid for the B/F fare.

Also, thanks to all for their incredibly quick reply.

I thought of another case: What about car rental/hotel miles? I assumed no, but I still can't get anything to add up. I probably take too many short trips.
