My CP upgrade for discount ticket this weekend is now upgraded to FC but the fare basis is listed as "E"
...and virtuallythere is listing all segments as confirmed in Envoy class.
Is this just a fluke or are they going to start calling FC Envoy Class? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As we all can attest, this is probably part of Marketing's efforts at rebranding and enhancing the first class experience to capture the premium flyer. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Or... it could be due to the realignment of fare codes that went into effect recently. G is now E (which was formerly used for Envoy); D is now P.

"E" is not envoy. It's the new code used to upgrade domestic flights not booked as Y or B fare tickets. Envoy is usually booked as J.

You are both right. They have changed the code to E, and my stub today for domestic FC said 'envoy.' I would never confuse the two - there is no comparison.

This happened to me recently. Rest assured, Envoy Lounge was not available, nor did I board a spacious A330 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Another upgrade (mine for Wednesday) where the designation was Envoy and the fare code was E. I guess maybe the dimbulbs at US changed it for now because of all the recent posts agreeing that "First Class Sucks" and they thought that it was better to have their Fc appear in mufti hiding behind the name of Envoy, so that nobody whould know that the same old FC was what they would really get.
Question - Now, despite all that, if I am looking for a US domestic flight with a good chance of getting the upgrade, do I look for lots of Es or lots of Gs?

You won't see G anymore. Upgrade inventory bucket is now E (or P for Y/B fares).

My VirtuallyThere Itineraryfor the London Do has me in Envoy Class (instead of First) LAX - CLT and, drum roll please, Supersonic Class CLT - LGW. When I called to make sure my coveted row 1 seats to LGW were still mine, I was told that when they uploaded new codes into their computer system, it met with some interesting results.
I printed a copy - I am sure it will cause a chuckle or two as I check in!!
