I hope no one was planning on going anywhere this week.

All Flights from Buenos Aires Airports Cancelled (http://buenosairesherald.com/article/62222/flights-at-metropolitan-ezeiza-airports-cancelled-due-to-control-tower-failure)

Estimates on reopening are within hours, or within 2 days, depending on which reports one may believe.

Its a mess... currently there are conflicting reports, apparently the worst case scenario would be a 48 hour closing.... pathetic, this is truly shameful !!!!

EZE is having some activity. AEP still paralyzed.

It looks like all of AA's flights departed EZE on Monday night albeit with 2-3 hour delays. Let's hope this doesn't become a recurring problem :td:

Local media is reporting that operations are now coming to normal, still some delays from the pile that this mess created but things should return to normal in 24-48 hours.

Good, hopefully I can get back to Buenos Aires on Saturday, i'd hate to be stuck in this banana republic called the EEUU!

I actually flew out from AEP today for Salta, just before noon. Although the airport was very busy, and I think basically every flight, almost regardless of destination, was going out full, I thought things were surprisingly under control.

Bag drop was ~30 minutes, which is hardly exceptional there (often it's faster, but I've had the same wait during high season when there hadn't been disruptions the day before). The only real difference was that a TV camera kept coming by filming the lines and bags sitting in the queue. (Is that really interesting enough to film?) The film crews didn't engage any of the passengers, though, and indeed seemed to avoid eye contact whilst filming.
Our flight left between 30 and 45 minutes late, which for a 100% full flight in a very busy terminal, seems pretty good to me.

There was a minor scuffle at the gate adjacent to ours, in which a woman who apparently had slept on the floor overnight after yesterday's disruptions starting screaming a gate agents when she wasn't placed onto a flight (and subsequently yelled a bit at the police who were brought over to talk to her). Even that seemed to be handled professionally and without drama by LAN and the airport personnel/airport police, and was remarkably similar to some verbal violence I witnessed at BRC last winter under normal operations, but a busy flight where a family who thought they deserved to get on the flight, didn't.

All in all, I was expecting utter chaos, and all I got was a reasonably normal day in an Argentine airport. Maybe I'm getting soft, though... :p

Man, I'm glad I missed this thread yesterday! I just returned from IGR to AEP today and while the flight was 45 minutes late (what AR flight isn't?), we landed at AEP just fine...around 630pm.

I think this explains why the seat map for my DL flight to ATL in several days went from relatively empty to almost full. I guess DL had to cancel a flight or two as well.

Rumor has it that someone who is "well liked" on Milepoint was able to escape out of EZE tonight, on time. No upgrade.

You and me both!

I actually hadn't even bought my tickets to SLA yet when all this happened (last minute trip I was putting together - and I'm based in BA). If I had seen this news, I probably would have scrapped the whole trip had I seen the chaos yesterday.

As it was, I think things went remarkably well today. And I'm very, very happy to be up in Salta now. :)

    :eek:I really need to look into raising cash by mule-ing stuff into Kirchnerlandia :D Then I'd be able to afford clase media :p

I surely won't get rich using this scheme: http://www.themulepool.com/

EZE was a breeze last night. No piqueteros on the autopista. Lots of tourists checking in who know the airport drill certainly helps speed things along. More personnel at security and immigration than "normal". ^

Someone thought I was in my mid 30s tonight. :D - I refrained from the "are you drunk" comment! In any event, I returned to a non-vegetarian diet today.
