www.vacationstogo.com had a repositioning 14 cruise from Barcelona to Miami. $399. I bought two rooms - filling in the blanks for the other person as my no-show son. Enjoyed the whole room to myself, and thought it a great deal.

That web site also offers bookings for singles at varying supplements. Some are not too bad.

Regarding what to do - I read (pretty good library on board), watched the ocean, happily wandered at each of the ports, a little TV, daily exercise, shopping, Suduko, art auctions (didn't buy), etc.

The highlights for me were the daily lectures on famous voyages and plate tectonics - each was fascinating.

I visited with interesting people, swam, walked ... never did run out of things to do. Went to the musical shows and performances.

With careful managing, didn't gain weight - although that was a challenge.

I had a lovely time and would do it again.

People could give you more useful information if you mentioned where you are thinking of cruising and told a little bit about yourself.

CruiseCompete.com can be another good one.

As for travelling solo, I've done 3 total cruises. 2 were solo and 1 was with my ex-girlfriend. I enjoyed them all. My first cruise (solo) was my best one though due to the tablemates at my assigned table. They just made it a very fun cruise and were some great people. My 2nd cruise was with my ex-gf. We switched tables after we didn't quite click with our originally assigned table. The 2nd table was better but for many nights the rest of the week my ex wasn't feeling well and we either went for early dinner in the buffet or with room service. I think we missed out on the camaraderie of dining companions. My 3rd cruise was on Celebrity in Aqua Class with the associated dining in Blu. While I enjoyed the perks, I much preferred the main dining room. My future cruises on Celebrity will not be in Aqua Class.

I second the suggestion for Vacations To Go. They have a nice interface to easily find decent low single supplement deals. I'd also subscribe to updates from Royal Caribbean and Celebrity on their Tuesday specials. They seem to commonly have single supplements on those specials at around 50% instead of 100%.

There are solo-specialty agencies. Budget Travel Magazine ran an article last month on tips for solo travelers, including solo cruisers. It can be found at The Power of One (http://www.budgettravel.com/feature/6-most-common-solo-travel-questionsanswered,7169/).

I think their single supplement is 125%. That is unusually low.

And some fluctuate theirs. I just got one on Celebrity for under 150%, the sailing is less than 45 days away, and it is Europe, not selling so well.

Too true and I sailed on Holland America in January solo and supplement was 140%.

I'd also recommend keeping some flexibility with your cabin location: I was booked in the cheapest inside and watching the prices found an obstructed ocean view cabin went on sale for less so grabbed it. The natural light was nice although the view was practically nill thanks to the lifeboat in front of the floor to ceiling window.

*Some* sailings on Azamara are at 125%, and the list frequently changes. Oceania also has a number of sailings right now at 125%.

Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have close-in specials colloquially called "Happy Hour" specials each week, and frequently those also have reduced single supplements. Princess and Holland America generally offers their inside and oceanview cabins for early booking at 150% supplement.

Finding the solo occpuancy specials can be challenging, and flexibility is helpful as is working with an agent who specializes in this area. ;)
