Greetings all. Just starting to think about a Hawaii vacation. I've been to Oahu a couple of times several years ago, not sure that's where I want to spend a week or so. I'd be flying (need to fly United) from Washington DC; haven't checked yet but i'd guess i'd need to fly via west coast to Honolulu and then beyond; i also know i can fly direct to Maui from ORD and west coast. Not sure when we'd be going; odds are good that it won't even be in calender 2011.

----any thoughts/experiences re good flight ideas?
----would love to hear about places to stay/eat anywhere in the islands. some of this process i'll have to decide what's easiest to get to, but it's early days for my thoughts.
----we think we want to stay on a beach. would prefer not to cook, don't think renting a condo is the right way for us to go. not sure how much of a "resort" place would make sense for us. we often avoid really big hotels, and for our travel often avoid kids (no, no, we don't dislike kids, it's just a thing for us when we're on vaca.
----we're not "budget travelers." willing to spend money when it's worth it.

So, any thoughts you'd be willing to share i'd really, really appreciate it. as I get into my research i'm also happy to report back on things i find that sound interesting. Really appreciate your help!

Our upcoming stint will be once again the Big Island (the most ecodiverse Island) and Maui.. the favorite for tourists is Maui, and if you are into nature and its' phenomonon, then Big Island has the Volcano, skiing, rain forest, desert.. you name it.

Good luck on your research.
